Thailand likely to export more poultry in 2014

BANGKOK, 3 August 2014 (NNT) - The Department of International Trade Promotion has reported that Thailand’s poultry exports will likely increase this year while suggesting Thai poultry producers and exporters maintain the quality of their products.

Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion Nanthawan Sakuntanak said the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association expected that Thailand would export 560,000-570,000 tons of live and processed poultry worth 78 billion baht in 2014, higher than last year’s exports of 530,000 tons. Apart from the absence of bird flu this year, Japan’s growing demands for Thai poultry after China faced the problem of substandard poultry exports was another factor beneficial to Thailand, the official said.

The director-general however suggested that Thai entrepreneurs should maintain their export quality throughout the process so that they would be able to continuously expand export markets and consumers would be more confident in the safety of their products.
