30 years ago most of the political criminals fled to Hawaii were they were later joined by the Marcos Clan.

A man I knew who had a high end retail Gemstone and Jewelry outlet in Honolulu one day had Emalda Marcos walk into his shop.

She loved Jewelry and over a period of time she bought a considerable amount of High end jewelry from the mans jewelry shop

That started an association with the former First Lady of the Philippines that resulted in the man meeting a number of Thai political escapees residing in Hawaii.

Long story short, several years later the guy came to Thailand to do the jewelry business and other possible investments using the family members and relatives of the Thai political contacts he had met in Hawaii.

The first business was opening a night club with one of the brothers of one of the former politicians he had met in Hawaii and through the brother he met other politically connected family members and relatives.

He also started a Mangosteen plantation with them.

They had the land and he put up the money to develop the land and create the plantation.

He also told me he had some other investments / partnerships with the politically connections  but he never elaborated on those other business ventures.

Long story short.

The night club failed while he never saw any revenues of any significance....but he did enjoy himself getting drunk and surrounding himself with pretty women while the costs to operate the night club were always more than the revenues generated. ...if you know what I mean?

The Mangosteen plantation was taken over by his Thai partners family members and he never saw any profits at all.

All his other investments with the Thai political connections also failed and he died a poor man here in Thailand.....but he arrived with close to 1 million dollars.

He thought he was connected and that ensured him success.

They are too sleazy to have as partners and all they did in the end was milk him of his money.

Considering that he was happy to profit by dealing with scum like the Marcos clan, some might call that poetic justice.

How wonderfully quiet these chainsaws are !!!    and the transport needed to enter forests, and the un-noticed gangs of workers employed.
Officials are not employed,   the mafia is.

It would appear you are not alone in your thinking.
Hence this

True enough.

With Mrs. Marcos he simply sold jewelry to her while he did not mind at all her former history.

He was not the only person who dealt with her and or the Marcos clan after their escape to Hawaii.

But here in Thailand he thought his political connections were the key to success as he liked to tell everyone who his connections were and how they had various businesses together and how they helped him and accommodated him and smoothed things over concerning incorporating a business and partnerships and share holding arrangements etc.

Slowly they drained him of his money and he never recovered.

I kept on telling him he should simply get back to the core business he knew and buy gemstones here and sell them back in the USA as the US market was very strong and lucrative at that time.

But he was enjoying the good life and the adventure here in Thailand  so he could not break away from what he had started here in Thailand so he stayed around while everything just slowly failed.

Anyhow, this is off the subject matter somewhat but the point is, the politically connected people here in Thailand are hardly trustworthy individuals and that man found out the hard way his political connections were more of a liability than an assest...in the end.

Now you know why the wonderful new roads were built [for villagers] in remote heavily wooded areas..

Easy access for heavy duty trucks to remove timber...

As for

Any justice?'

I am reminded of a story some years back in the Bangkok post where the judges of the highest court in the land increased their salaries by a minimal amount ...

Somebody soon pointed out that they could not legally do this..

Ok said the judges,We will resign our posts immediately until it has been sorted out.....

I merely wonder what high profile court case was just about to run out of time to be heard....

'

As an aside..please use ve instead of 'of'. The ve is short for' have.

Isn't it typical..........escape overseas and living in exile!!!   How many Thai politicians and Officials are in that position? LOS

Much the same as "moved to an inactive post"

I think they were keeping them, not to sell.

I've seen a number of large all timber "show" houses being built in recent times

Seems that is one way to show off just how rich you are

and would be nice to have very valuable timber incorporated in such a building

One can only hope someone has the courage to bring down the hammer in a big way on this criminal family. To be caught defiling the forests in this manner should be a national crime, and treated as such. Massive fines in the range of several million baht, long prison terms, and extreme shame heaped upon the entire extended family, would be just rewards for a heinous crime such as this. One can only hope.

It is most likely that the police supervised the felling and night transportation , as well as taking a cut themselves .
How else would anyone know to find it burried underground .

The OP says they found it while looking for weapons, a happy accident, as such.
Now whether that is the exact truth......... Edited by Bluespunk

I would of thought someone like Churapong and his family who are obviously being targeted for misdemeanors would of found time over the last few years to remove such obvious illegal material!

Really? So they're obviously innocent in your book?

Up until the middle of May, I think PTP thought they would hang on to power and get re-elected and then carry on back to normal. They have show such arrogance many times.

I don't believe they would react that quickly to removing all evidence and this was carefully buried 3 mtrs below. Would have been a bit too obvious to start digging up!

This is hardly a misdemeanor. Unless you want to belittle this crime to suit your agenda. Targeted - or they could be criminals of course. They have both chosen to run away.

Perhaps someone will turn up with paperwork to show it was all legally purchased, like in the case with Thaksin's sister wink.png

Look at the size of those planks. This is a crime almost equal to the reprehensible trade in illegal ivory. It seems there is no upper limit to greed in the human species.

I totally agree with your comments and sentiments Frank.

Unlike Smutcakes who thinks it's just a misdemeanour and that this poor family are being targeted for petty crimes.

As to the story of the man from Hawaii. If you lay with wolf"s, expect to get fleeced. His 1st miss-assumption was probably to think that they thought he was a social equal. 5 Stupid farang, family is what counts, all else is .........

So they went to the trouble of burying the quite large number of quite big logs 3 metres down.

Surely there were a number of people involved in digging the hole, loading - transporting - unloading the logs, and replacing the large amount of soil.

I guess they believed nobody would ever speak up, or perhaps they believed everybody would be too frightened to speak up.

The father was the leader of the pt party and the interior minister of Thailand, and he's the other half of the double, with jakrophob, who announced a few weeks back they were setting up a government in exile. They also announced they had found a foreign country which would allow them to set up their government on their soil. Thailand has since cancelled the passports of both of these clowns.

Nothing heard since. The name of the 'host' country never announced. Just wondering how the 'host' government (if it does exist) is feeling now.

So much negativity on this thread. Did it not flood up north a few years ago. This wood could have easily settled and sunk a bit below ground level. Golden teak is a very dense wood after all. People here seem to think that Mr. Ruangsuwan had buried the planks on purpose using an excavator or similar machinery. That would be a very sneaky act and wholly opposite of Mr. Ruangsuwan's position as a red leader. A man that stands for true justice, equal law enforcement, and an end to double standards would not be burying a huge haul of illegal timber now would he? Poor Mr.Ruangsuawn must find the naughty chap that left these planks lying around on his manor grounds to put an end to all this innuendo. Might I suggest that his running away and hiding is not the best pan to prove his innocence.

But anybody can escape justice, because anybody can be bought. In Thailand!

Tell that to the Media Mogul that has been refused bail on a 20 yr. prison sentence!

Hang on !  the Fat  Lady has'nt sung yet !  cheesy.gif clap2.gif

This is good news knowing that justice is been served.....but, but .....wait a moment...consider this fact:

Here in Thailand there are literally thousands of Thai people who cheat the system ( big time)  and or scam and lie and profit big time while believing they are immune to prosecution while they believe they can pay their way out of any legal situation ( as they have numerous times before )

The nation is run amuck with every politician and politically connected types and or big business people and or wealthy family types and or the elites and the money making power brokers that carrying on as usual and seeming fearless of the laws, rules and regulations and or the authorities that are supposed to enforce the laws and rules and regulations.

That being the case, as we all know, ....why then is this particular man first in line to be prosecuted by the new military rule government and handed down some stern sentencing.

Why is the nation not witnessing hundreds of his kind being rounded up and held on charges ( charges that are sure to be easily enough proven because they are guilty as charged ) and lock them up also and throw away the key, as a manner of speaking.

You have to wonder why this guy is being focused on and not all the others, who as far as we can surmise, are just as lowly and more than likely many of them even worse than this guy.

Could his case be a case of personal vendettas being exacted upon people the military never did like anyhow  ( remember he is a media mogul and a outspoken critic ) so now it is time to pursue the guy and exact revenge on the man...but do it in a legal way making the new government officials look like shining stars and garner the admiration of everyone else who thinks this is what needs to be done as an example of justice.

Just saying.

Totally agree. Why him, when there are so many others, allegedly that is.

It would seem the police has either a problem concentrating on more than one case at the time, or they are simply too busy with literally thousands of other cases for which they still try to get the paperwork in order. Rumour has it rice storage warehouses are being cleared to be able to store all the dossiers of all of those thousands of cases.

About 300 golden teak planks were found buried about three metres under ground.

A clear indication that Pheu Thai fugitive from justice Chaurpong's son absolutely knew the illegality of his disgusting and selfish criminal actions.

Disgusting and selfish? It is 300 pieces of old lumber. No one committed rape or murder here. Stop building the gallows. Nothing to see here.....

Absolutely. If only 'old lumber' it may be of insufficient strength to build decent gallows

I am absolutely disgusted that Charupong Ruangsuwan maybe be involved in crimes against the Thai environment. Lest we forget lets remind ourselves Charupong Ruangsuwan is a scholar of North Eastern Thai culture. Further; Charupong Ruangsuwan graduated Bachelor of Law from Thammasat University.
