Search continues for survivors at caved-in condominium building

PATHUM THANI: -- Sniffer dogs of the military were brought in today (Tuesday) to help in the search and rescue of nine workers who are believed to be still trapped under tonnes of concrete slabs and rubbles from the collapsed condominium building in Klong Luang district of Pathum Thani.

People in Kamphaeng Phet make merit on National Mother’s Day

KAMPHAENG PHET, 12 August 2014 (NNT) - Local residents and civil servants in Kamphaeng Phet province have taken their moms to the Sirichit Thai Cultural Conservation Center situated by the River Ping, to partake in a ceremony to give alms to 82 Buddhist monks.


The ceremony, presided over by Kamphaeng Phet Governor Surapol Wanitsanee, is held as part of the celebrations on Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 82nd birthday anniversary.

Thousands of loyal subjects are seen lining up the road leading to the Cultural Conservation Center since the crack of dawn. Most of them are accompanying their mothers to make merit on the National Mother’s Day, also Queen’s birthday.

Together, they offered packets of rice and dried food to the monks and later released 500,000 fish into the Ping River in a gesture of making merit for Her Majesty the Queen.

PATHUM THANI, Aug 12 -- Rescue workers are searching to help an unknown number of construction workers trapped in a building that collapsed in Pathum Thani yesterday, while executives of the Engineering Institute of Thailand inspected the scene to find out the cause of the collapse.

ONEP reaffirms tunnel and overpass won't affect Khao Yai World Heritage site

Jasmine prices at their highest on Mother’s Day

CHIANG RAI, 12 August 2014 (NNT) – Customers have been crowding in to buy jasmine flowers, the symbol of Thai Mother’s Day, at Sirikhon Market in Chiang Rai since the early morning today.


Many jasmine shops increased their prices, so much so that a small bunch of jasmine increased to 40 baht from 20 baht, while a big one increased from 200 baht to 500 baht.

There are also plastic jasmine bouquets on sale as well, to increase customers' choices. However, this year’s demand for the fresh fragrant jasmine, was even higher than last year.

Rayong volunteer police conduct beach-cleaning efforts on Mother's Day

RAYONG, 12 August 2014 (NNT) – Volunteer police officers from the Crime Suppression Division in Rayong province have conducted a beach-cleaning effort in commemoration of Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit’s 82nd birthday anniversary.


At the P.M.Y. Beach, over 30 volunteer police have picked up garbage and trash along a five kilometer stretch of the beach under the project titled “Uniting for good deeds on Mother’s day”.

The event has been held continuously as a reminder of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s dedication towards the people of Thailand while also encouraging the public on helping to save the Earth and keep the beaches clean.

Bhumjaithai to nominate Chai Chidchob for NRC seat

BANGKOK: -- Bhumjaithai Party leader Anuthin Charnweerakul said his party will nominate veteran politician and former MP Chai Chidchob as a candidate for a seat in the National Reform Council.


He said Chai is qualified because he used to be a Parliament president has political experience during several tenures of governments.

Anuthin said his party would nominate only Chai for the post.

Wallop to propose NLA to consider to require members to declare assets

BANGKOK: -- Wallop Tangkananurak, a member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), on Tuesday expressed support for the growing calls for the NLA members to declare their asset statements as a measure to prevent corruption.


He said once the NLA members stepped into politics, they are all public figures. Even though there is no law obliging them to declare their asset statements, they should do it, Wallop said.

"Especially when we were selected by the National Council for Peace and Order, we really need to [declare the asset statements]. It will be a measure to prevent corruption," he said.

Former Pheu Thai MP urges junta-appointed organisation's members to receive salary just for one post

BANGKOK: -- Former Pheu Thai MP Kusumawatee Sirikomut urged members, who take more than one post in organizations under the ruling junta, to get salary for one post only.

"If they get salary from all posts [they sit on] it won't be fair and will take advantage from people as their salary comes from tax money the people pay," she said.

It was expected that some keymen of the National Council for Peace and Order would be appointed as Cabinet members. Moreover, there are many government officials and military officers appointed as the members of National Legislative Assembly.
