More than 1,200 people – most of them children – have been hospitalised with severe dengue in Yangon between January and July and 12 of them have died from the mosquito-borne disease, the Yangon Region Health Department said.

Outbreaks have proven extremely difficult to contain because a single mosquito can infect several people within a few hours, public health officials say.
