Places to eat in Doi saket

A few not mentioned are I am Gourmet for cheap Western Food, the menu is pretty average but the staff and friendly and they do a reasonable plate of ribs there. Mr Esarn does good North Eastern food if you didn't guess by the name, good gai yang, somtam and beef sausage it's in Doi Saket town itself near the market and on the road to the Amphur.

There is also a little Mom and Pop style Thai food place just along from the Tesco Lotus that does standard Thai food, I grab their Salad with Pumpkin Sauce for 30 Baht to take away they do good size bowls of noodles here and all the usual.

Just past the Doi Saket turn off is Dairy Goat Cafe where you can get a good fresh goat milk smoothie and various pork dishes cooked in goats milk, everytime I've been there they have been out of Goats Cheese but it is on the menu, kids can feed the kids and goats as well.

My top pick is Sol E Luna Italian restaurant just before the Doi Saket turn off, great home cooked Italian food with a friendly no frills atmosphere..I love this place.

I agree that Sol E Luna is good food, but cold plates and VERY slow service, otherwise I would go there often. It seems that they can only cook for one table at a time !! The Italian further along that road, maybe a few hundred meters on the left, just past Doi Saket turn and after petrol station is very good, and though service is still slow, it is faster than Sol E Luna, and plates are hot.

You can't rush a good cook,Sit back and enjoy a nice cold drink have a nice conversation with your partner then you will really enjoy your fine home cooked pasta. If you like your plates warmed first ask, the staff don't bite.

I would need to enjoy a few cold drinks, it's so slow ! A good cook should be able to cook quickly, and cook a number of tables requirements at the same timeใ I was single handed Chef for many years. I could cook 5 course Xmas Dinner for 150 pax and serve them all in less than 2 hours. I could also cook, in my own restaurant, many different lunches for 56 seater coach loads, sometimes 3 per day, who all wanted to eat and get on tour of Stratford-upon-Avon quickly !!

Try Bo Hin market there are several restaurants , if you come from ds turn left just before the over pass , about 1.5 k down on left you will find a quiet bar run by a yank , nice guy

I'm currently staying in the Bo Hin area for a couple months, but haven't come across this yank run bar and would like to check it out. Anyone have a google map reference for it by any chance?

I'll also further confirm that Sole e Luna and Locanda are both good. Went to Mr Esan just last night, nice food and friendly host.

^ i think the restaurant mentioned may be closed.

I think 2BOB meant the one down past the bottle factory?

The road to it is just after the concrete walk bridge over the 118 coming from Doi Saket, not before it?

Yes. A hundred meters down that road on the left across from the wat is Pa Daengs for good kao soy and similar local favorites.

Checked out Klua Donpin today and was very impressed to find another great restaurant in the Doi Saket area. I had the breakfast which was the standard Sausage, egg and bacon with toast, pretty standard stuff but all cooked well. I decided to go for an Avacado salad as well, a nicely presented salad with Avocado's that were just perfect in way of ripeness. My wife had the fish and chips, she enjoyed it but it was too much for her to finish with a large helping of french fries and a nice freshly made coleslaw with a tasty salad dressing. I also had a couple of coffee's and finished off with a Fresh Kiwi cheesecake with cream that was probably the best I've tasted in Chiang Mai [Ragu's Limoncello Cheesecake has just dropped to second place!]

Both the owners Pim and Don were very friendly and want to pride themselves on the quality of their food and the cleanliness and hygiene of their restaurant and kitchen. They have only been open a few weeks but already have built up a repeat clientele of local Thais and Expats.

They are very near to opening a sports bar on the 2nd floor of the restaurant which will be great to watch sporting events with other Doi Saket / Sansai expats and they do a Sunday Lamb Roast each week starting at around twelve.

As I said this is the first time I've been in the place today and I like to support good Local restaurants, ticks all the right boxes for me friendly owners, an interesting menu and reasonable prices.

There's a recently opened Thai-Kiwi restaurant on the Doi Saket road...Klua Donpim.

Heading out of CM towards Doi Saket on the 118 after the Outer Ring road and about 1k past the big PTT gas station on the left. It has a big Kiwi out the front.

Had a lovely roast leg of lamb lunch there today.

Food off the menu is good too.

We were not so lucky. The lamb was nicely cooked and quite well carved, but that was all I liked. It was cool to start with, but served on cold plate so it was soon cold. As were the veg, gravy etc. I suspect the roast potatoes were in fact deep fried because there was no nice brown colour and taste from roast meat. The cold carrot was all wrinkled, probably because it was cooked in microwave. I could not identify the other soft mush ( vegetable). I even found garlic , which spoils the delicate flavour of lamb. A sad experience.

Have eaten in quite a few places in Doi saket over the years.

Standards can vary - great the first time, then second time, quite often disappointing.

The one which has consistently provided good, wholesome, well-coooked and tasty food, both Thai and Western, coupled with excellent value for money and friendly service is:

Iam Gourmet

(pronounced 'eeam gourmet' not I-am-Gourmet)

It's unpretentious, simple, definitely not for Hi-So's, a bit rough-and tumble, but we've enjoyed every single bite we've had there.

We wish them well. They absolutely deserve to be successful.
