Flower in a sator tree

I haven't been able to get a good picture. However flowers are are white petals with white stamens, the petals are about 1.5 - 2" long. The flower is about the same across. I could not see any leaves. The tree branch is quite bare. Seems to do better in heavy rain. Has anyone ant thoughts what it may be? The flowers only last about 2 days.

OK I found some photos. This was the best, although far from perfect. No where to use a tripod, to steady the shot.

They seem to be ground dwelling trees. This flower is in a Sator aka stink bean tree.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkia_speciosa

Are you sure there's a stem connecting the "flower" to something? It looks more like some exotic fungus or lichen.

 

Sometimes fungus can appear quite flower like:

Yes I went and had a look after  those pics. I'll ask the wife to have our tapper and friends to get rid of the dead stuff.
