School buses next to be regulated

BANGKOK, 15 August 2014 (NNT) - The Metropolitan Police Bureau and relevant units have been set to regulate school buses after their regulating of passenger vans received positive feedback.

Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol.Maj.Gen.Chanthawit Rammasut said the bureau had set plans to monitor school buses as requested by the general public in a bid to prevent danger and accidents.

Officers would make sure that school bus drivers drive safely and each bus would be required to be tuned up twice a year for safety of all students and passengers, Pol.Maj.Gen.Chanthawit said.

There are currently over 2,000 school buses from 250 schools in Bangkok. The Metropolitan Police Bureau will meet with relevant units on 16 August 2014 to explain regulations of school buses.

Good news indeed...hopefully it will be thorough regulation which improves safety.

What good are all regulation when no one follows them. There are already so much regulation on the books and no on really cares or follow them anyways, so instead of making new laws first enforce the one on the books then look at new ones to improve the life in Thailand

I sincerely hope they do a bit of regulation in the rest of the country,  not just Bangbloodykok!

Yep.... and our schools are modified for racing and chuck out billows of black smoke!!!!

Hope this means the drivers will have to check that they have left no kids

inside the vans ,when the school run is over, and not packing them in like

sardines, would be a good thing too.

The twice yearly "tune up" will be the same as the yearly inspection of cars over 6 years old, i.e. everybody gotta pay and don't even think about bring your van for inspection.

I've been undertaken by a speeding school bus from an international school

Only reputable bus company that service schools that I know of is Montri. I've seen their bus chaperone and their check-off system when a student is dropped off, very efficient and professional.

Prime example of where regulation will help.

Department approved trailer should be mandatory for extra passengers

Something like this do you think?  [attachment=279389:tra.jpg]

Many Thais ( and their neighbors) are already treated like cattle, perhaps a few new larger buses?

I find it interested how much expats piss and moan about how %hit this country is and how glad these changes are finally here.

"corrupt this, prostitution that, illegal overstays, criminals, dangerous roads, poor drivers" blah blah blah.

So, why have you been living here if you hate everything about the country? These changes to the country are new, so why did you come here knowing how Thailand is?

I'm sure the next moan will be about all the extra cars & m/bikes on the road when parents won't/cant pay the extra that school buses will have to charge to stand still and not reduce income.

There is nothing to be cheerful about here. The only actual information is that officials will "make sure" the buses are safe.

There are no changes to come. There is no plan.
