"Here: palm trees, tourists suffering in the hot sun, benches only facing the sea."

Wrong again Joe. Those people are cold and are out in the sun to get warm.

That's Nice, France. Duh.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

The hottest day of the year is about 24C.

Only an idiot would be out there if it was 37C,

Next.

Uhhh, those palm trees cannot survive on cold climates. Care to revise your statement?

Really? Palms cannot survive the cold. Interesting.

What about the palm trees growing in Canada? cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Im not sure their motive was the footpath market because they dont do them very often, I think they probably just went over buget, there were plenty of seats in the original plan, they didnt even really finish the path either, there are still unpaved areas, but maybe thats a traditional feature here

the problem with the shade is that they dont want any so that their 100 ft high streetlights can light the path at night for the security cameras, so unfortunately the surviving trees are likely to get another severe cutback soon

Motives for chopping down the trees?

Lets say they rent out 1,000 tents, @ 20,000Bt for the week.

=20,000,000Bt.

I can just see the meeting at City Hall planning the destruction.

Somebody says.."wont people be upset with tree chopping"?

"Nah, don't worry about it. My dad leased out a forest preserve for a garbage dump and got away with it."55555

except the trees were cut to make the extra road lane, the ones on the footpath were left unmolested

They had a record high today in Nice then, at 26C, on a partly cloudy day. Pattaya was 30C. Not that much difference really.

Just remember that these are in-the-shade temperatures. If you were standing in the sunshine on a 26C day, it would definitely be way over 30C,

Well you proved me wrong. Pattaya and Nice, France have the same climate.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif

Good thing City Hall chopped down all those shade trees in Pattaya cause it's damn chilly out there.

Landscaper designers in Thailand should keep that in mind when planning public spaces.

All I proved was that there was a 4C difference in temperature yesterday and that you like using these: cheesy.gif .. for no obvious reason.

But this trollish piece of illogic, needing the support of multiple emoticons, violates the TV cardinal socialist principle of everyone, all the time. Pattaya does have its cool days as well that even warrant wearing a sweater.

Suppose the effete thaibeachlovers happened to visit Nice on one of the hot days and found the promenade void of shade over a particular beloved bench! Unlike a lit' ol' Japanese lady, he can't carry an umbrella, poor guy. And he happened to sit on a bench where the view is partly blocked by the railing over the seawall--even though in Pattaya he mostly sits facing Beach Rd. watchin' the ho's walkin' by, known as "watching the world go by." Well, then he'd need to come to the forum and rant, page after page, about the stupid French government, the poor design, NO old growth tress (not a lie in this case). He Told Us So in the late 1700s. OMG. Nice, France--ever since they built that promenade, tourism has died. wink.png

No, the demand is that promenade must please everyone, without exception, even those who've paid a mere flyspeck of tax, mostly on Chang VAT. And it must be perfectly pleasing in every way, on every day, regardless of the weather.

I was merely pointing out that a thoughtful landscape design should have shade trees in a hot climate and sunshine in a cool climate.

And guess what? In a climate with four seasons we plant deciduous trees that block the sun in summer and let the sun in during winter.

Imagine that.

A battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

This isn't fair.whistling.gifcheesy.gifclap2.gif

True, you aren't up to discussing this rationally. But I've merely pointed out that the new promenade does have both, that most tourists, residents, and posters here find it better--overall--than the old promenade, that it hasn't caused any noticeable negative effect on tourism, and that it's silly and time-wasting to complain uselessly, dream of what might have been, and feel superior by calling the Thais idiots.

Everything can be better. Things a particular person wants could be more--esp when he's not paying for it. TV posters and Letters To The Editor writers have been sayin' that while you were still in diapers. Yawn.

Next.

There is not enough space and continuous erosion on Pattaya Beach which makes it an expensive luxury to attempt to give to the public.

It is better now than many times in the past 20 years, but it will erode and fall apart like it has many times in the past.

If you want a decent beach, maybe try hanging out at the poolside at the Hard Rock, or drive down to Sattahip Navy Base.

They unnecessarily ripped out 4 meters of habitat the entire length of the beach, chopped hundreds of beautiful old shade trees, removed massive amounts of garden beds, then covered it all in concrete...just so it could be exploited/rented by a few thoughtless City Officials.

Better--OVERALL. (Another trollish distortion of my points).

Yep. Just gonna have to suck it up, pal. xbiggrin.png.pagespeed.ic.XhpYJIv77v.png

The trees were cut because City Officials/Police make a ton of money renting out the inside lane. No?

Sadly, it's too late for the trees but these fat cats at City Hall are sweating it now.

The Army is on the way.

Yesterday, they rounded up the ex mayor and his cohorts in Phuket.

This will be fun.
