When I first embarked on these shores albeit Phuket, being engulfed by many of these so-called - Sukki/Laos gals was promptly shown the way to their lower body locations. Snorky, was pleased until the novelty wore off besides other things hahaha.

Anyway, hopefully I'll be okay. Will let you know if I am safe to today or not since this is becoming part n’ parcel of the school run – or so it seems. I watched several Thais pass by in the same direction a few times during the week and these satanic beasts never batted an eye-lid. Saving themselves for me I think.. So help me God … hahaha

You haven't eaten dog by mistake by any chance, have you? I have heard that dogs know if you have previously eaten one of their dogthren, and you will forever be hated by the doghood.

Despite the above likely being an unfounded belief, it does seem to be supported anecdotal evidence. My dog hates one particular person for no outward reason, but I do know that this person has eaten of the beast before.

something tells me these dogs can decipher the difference between Thai people and Farangs.

No, they can tell the difference between people who fear them and who don't

It really is a SHAME YOU CAN'T READ my OP correctly nor my replies. Its Eejit's like you that clog these topics with pathetic dribble that does not reflect the corresponding posts and lag behind with information already supplied in greater detail..

Go back to sleep .. time for your nap me thinks cheesy.gif

that they lie in the middle of the road and people drive around them, forcing you off the road if you are going the other way

that they lie in 7-11 doorways, with everyone having to step over and no one bother to move them on

that they go after the mentally ill that wander the streets or any non native on foot or bicycle

that no-one ever bothers to correct the dogs behaviour is what I expect from people only concerned for themselves

selfish <deleted> that allow dogs to breed and wander the streets, live in temples, cause motocy accidents and carry diseases!

but where do I think I'm living?

OP, next time you are out walking you could try wearing pampers.

It seems in your case that the soi dogs have developed highly tuned senses and can indeed, smell fear......................thumbsup.gif

I agree that dogs can smell or sense fear.

You beat me to saying it.

Maybe it's you who is racist in assuming Thai dogs are racist.

"Any behaviourist knows that dogs don't like subsets of people " You assume it's because you are part of subset farang. Maybe the dogs hate you because you are part of another subset.....garlic eaters or non-bathers, or shoe wearers, or tall people or......

I think you need to isolate exactly what it is they hate about you, then you can deal with it appropriately (unless of course it is your race).

You say you are not scared but avoid them, that is to them a sign of fear.

Dear OP:

In Bangkok, and other big cities, street dogs all seem to be hard-of-hearing, chronically exhausted, and in general poor health. Most can barely muster the energy to bark, much less bite anyone. That may help explain why some of the people responding to your post (as entertaining as some of the responses have been rolleyes.gif ), haven't taken your post very seriously.

I agree that out in the countryside Thai dogs can be more aggressive, especially in packs. I believe that the Thai dog has been specifically bred to be suspicious of strangers, and to be very territorial. They can sometimes be unduly threatened by people who are taller than the average Thai. Wearing sunglasses can sometimes threaten these dogs as well. I'm a big guy and I've been bitten about three times in the past ten years here, but in general, I'd say they are more of a nuisance than a danger, and will almost always back off if you raise your voice or raise your arm. The best way I have found to get a dog to calm down is to have a talk with the owner in order to get the dog accustomed to seeing you interacting with its owner. This seems to have a calming effect on the dog.

Ask your neighbors what they think about the dogs. If a dog is running around biting people left and right, Thais are going to be just as concerned as you about the danger to themselves and their children. If your neighbors are apathetic about the problem/danger you perceive, I would recommend you re-evaluate just how serious the problem really is.

Thank you Gecko123.

Here I am again in one piece. I was surprised on my way back from the school today since the dogs where nowhere in sight. I assumed it was the chicken’s day off and they all crossed the road. Hahaha.

On a more serious note. I wholly agree with you about the dogs who live in the country since my encounter in Putnam Thani did install some fear in me ‘given that’ I was walking along a huge drive approaching the main house and was surrounded by the most evil dogs I’ve seen in my entire life. It was if they were possessed and really thought I was about to be savaged to death.

My count was more than a dozen and some quite bigger than that you’re run of the mill Soi dogs. The owner and several Thai guys came to my aid, but not before the leader of the pack bit me on the back and drew blood. It was a nasty experience I would not wish on my best enemy. They are a danger that needs addressed. Although, my OP is going to change absolutely nothing. To be honest, I just wanted people to be aware of these Soi Dogs as well because, if there is enough of them, you could be in serious trouble.

I realise it is quite the norm on tv for people to insult one relentlessly no matter what the OP is about and seems to me that on the odd occasion someone will say something sensible ‘now and then’ like your kind self with a good post and some others like Neverdie and so on. Everything, and everyone on here is open to abuse. Unfortunately, this is just how people like it. To ensure the OP is laughed at and cajoled by others to bite and lose self-control, albeit for the benefit or good or bad of the said’ OP. Nonetheless, more so for the amusement of their deranged fellow cronies.

Such is life I’m afraid ..

All the best my friend and thanks again

If this story's true, you need to report this to the cops immediately. I think they'll be sympathetic too. This sounds like an out of control situation, totally out of the norm. The fact that the owner and a bunch of guys immediately intervened tells me they already knew their dogs were a problem.

It is true but was some tme ago .. as per my reply 50% down the first page of the topic .. this was my reply

C'mon, no need to insult me I respect you more for being nicer. I am just replaying what happened and 3 years ago in Phutam Thani was attacked by an even more severe dog pack however had some Thai guys help me out before I was ripped to shreds .... such is Life .....

My attack on my upper leg 2 days ago never broke the skin so was not as nasty but thanks for giving it both your attention (other poster below yours)

One of these cattle prods should work wonders. Amazon or E-bay should sell them. I have seen what it does to a 1,000 pound steer, so a dog should get the message.

hahahaha .. yes mate but think it would turn sorta nasty for me if I dares try .... cheesy.gif

when a dog bites you it is signing its own death warrant, any dog that does bite you leaves the owners open for compensation or you have the right to kill it, nice and simple.

My great uncle once told me that during WW1 dogs were often used on the battlefields to sniff out German snipers. He said, no one knew how the dogs could distinguish Germans from other nationalities, but they did and many allied lives were saved because of those dogs. Some dogs were even awarded medals for their bravery when going into battle.

A few years ago I became curious and decided to do some research on how the dogs could archive the skills of differentiating Germans from others simply by scent. On what I read it transpired that the dogs could sniff out Germans by their bodily odours given out from the types of foods that they ate. Many of us may never notice that the smells from foods that we eat seeps out from the pores of our skin. For example Indians that eat strong curries, or Italians that eat a lot of garlic and so on.

It is a fact that us farangs do smell different from Thais and farangs of different nationalities do smell different from each other according to their lifestyles and what they eat. Maybe the dogs can detect this and then they think, there is a stranger in the camp, attack, attack, attack. So perhaps the theme of this thread; racist dogs in Thailand, has a ring of truth to a point.

What a wonderful story.

Thank you so much. Makes it all worthwhile now that I wrote this topic. I did point out that some good comes out of bad and this verifies that theory.

I truly believe this is a sensible and well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world. Wish all the topics were given this kind of attention other than abuse.

Good man ..

Cheers
