Blurry vision and/or behcet's disease?

Featured Replies

Over the last year I've had 5 or 6 different weeks where my vision suddenly becomes blurry. My eyes get slightly red, but aren't itchy. It's usually accompanied with a cold or lowered immune system. I'm only 35 and have not had previous eye trouble or auto-immune issues. I've seen a number of American eye doctors. Since the blood tests all come back normal and they can't find anything else wrong, and the doctors all seems to think it could be Behcet's disease. Anyone else have Behcet's or similar symptoms? If it's Behcet's then the chance of suddenly going blind seems quite high (21%.) But I don't seem to have the other ulcers that often accompany Behcet's. I'm wondering if there are any other known Asian viruses that could cause these symptoms. Otherwise I'm pretty healthy, I exercise, I don't drink, etc.

I don't know of any viruses that would cause this. If during these episodes eye exam shows uveitisvthen Behcet's is a possibility. However intermittent mouth sores are almosr always present. Was a pethargy test done?

Behcet's as you probably know is uncommon in the West so US doctors will often not have had that much experience with it.

Are you in Thailand now? One of the foremost experts in this is Dr. Emvalee Arromdee at Siriraj. She can probably be accessed through their private channel www.siphhospital.com
