If granted, when does the 30 day extension begin for a 60 day tourist visa:

1) 60 days from the original date of entry, or;

2) 30 days from the application/acceptance date at the immigration office?

This would be at CW/Bangkok.

The 30 days are added to the end of your the 60 days you were given on arrival in Thailand. Apply for the extension any time during the last few weeks of your permission to stay.

Hi

New poster here, be grateful if anyone can answer my queries on Tourist visas.

If I have a double or triple entry Tourist Visa, can I get the extension on the 1st entry i.e. spend up to 60 days in Thailand, extend for 30 days, then leave the country for a couple of days and return to activate the 2nd entry 60 days?

Also is there any limit on how early I could get the extension - does there only have to be so many days left or can I do it soon after my initial entry in to Thailand?

I'm also assuming that with double or triple entry, no re-entry permit is required.

Thanks

Yes, each entry can be extended by 30 days for 1,900 baht.

You can extend about 2 or 3 weeks early.

No re-entry permit is required.

But keep the expiry date of the visa (you got from the consulate) in mind. All your entries must be made at that date the latest or can no longer be used. For an extension it doesn't matter that the visa itself has expired.

Thanks for the helpful reply.

One further question if I may.

I will be entering Thailand in early November from the UK with a return ticket in early March (4 months later). I intend to get a double or triple entry tourist visa. When I arrive I won't have an itinery that shows me leaving Thailand before expiry of the first 60 days as I won't be making travel arrangements for a short trip to Phils until after I arrive. Do immigration require any proof of exit from Thailand before my 1st entry expires? Are they likely to ask me for anything extra other than possibly my return ticket to UK in March?

Thanks again/

Last year I tried to get a multiple entry tourist visa in Singapore and they

wanted to see my exit plane ticket. They did not give me the visa because the ticket

exit date was past the 60 days.

In a couple of weeks I will be sending my passport into Chicago Thai Consulate for

a multiple entry tourist visa. They also want a copy of my plane ticket. My ticket

has an exit three months after I arrive.

If they refuse to give me a visa I will buy a refundable ticket within the first 60 days and

after I get the visa I will cancel the ticket.

whistling.gif I want to make it clear that a double or triple entry tourist visa does not start from the day of entry into Thailand.

It starts from the date of ISSUE by the consulate or embassy that issues the visa.

This is usually 180 days from the date of issue, and is often on the visa as "Must enter before .... < date stamped or written>" on the visa.

So, actually, a double or entry tourist visa starts from the day it is issued..... counting down to that "must enter before" date.

Secondly .. ... if they insist on a ticket at the consulate ..... the rules do not require a return ticket, but merely a ticket out of Thailand. That can be a ticket to another nearby S.E. Asian country also. A ticket to Cambodia should be fine.

Having said that, each consulate has it's own interpretation of the rules .... some are more "friendly" with their interpretation than the others are.

And the, certain consulate workers may have stricter interpretation of the "rules" than others do.

In Singapore, for example, there is a woman who is known for her very strict interpretation of those "rules".

Tourist visas are not issued as multiple entries. They are issued by the number of entries you pay for. It can be 1, 2. or 3 entries. Singapore only issues single entry visas so you would of not gotten what you were asking for anyway. Recent reports indicate that they have not been asking for a ticket out of the country.

The Chicago consulate website also says itinerary not only tickets You should contact them to find out exactly what they require.

Suitcase has not said that and it nothing in his posting indicates that he's in Thailand.
