Do I have to have a current Visa to sell a car or motorbike that I legally own?

Do I have to be present during the transfer of ownership at the Dept of Land Transport?

Can someone sell a car or motorbike on my behalf if I am out of the country?

Thanks in advance for your answers...

I just sold my car and you will need a Letter of Residency from Thai Immigration to sell a car or motorbike and I had to show my passport with visa to get the letter. You need not be there at the transportation office but you need to sign some transfer documents to complete the sale. I actually paid a guy to do all the transfer work for me. Hope this helps.

I know you have to have a residency certificate to buy a vehicle but I didn't think you needed to have one to sell a vehicle?

Neither did I until I tried to sell my car without one. Made no sense to me but I still had to get the letter.

I haven't sold one yet! But if the residency letter is needed that's stupid!

Amazing Thailand as my wife would say sarcastically.

You need residence certificate for both buy and sell, hence you need a visa.

Would depend on the immigration office, some issue residence certificates on visa exempt entries (with proof of address of course).

I have sold one car to a used car dealer, and bought a new car after that from a new car dealer. In both cases, a "residence certificate" was not required. I do have a visa and work permit, both of which were copied by the respective dealers, and that was all that was required.

Required is residence certificate or workpermit or yellow housebook.
