BANGKOK: -- Former Bank of Thailand governor Pridiyathorn Devakula has resigned as a Post Publishing director.

Bangkok Post said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand that MR Pridiyathorn submitted his resignation letter on Thursday.

The resignation means he effectively ends his role of Post chairman.

The former Bank of Thailand governor is widely tipped to be a deputy prime minister overseeing economic policy for the government of Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha.

He is chief economic adviser of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Five candidates tipped to be in the cabinet resigned from their respective positions on Thursday.

They are Dr Narongchai Akrasanee, Mrs Kobkarn Suriyasat Wattanavrangkul, and Professor Rachata Rachatanavin. The three submitted resignation Thursday morning.

Two other NLA members also resigned in the afternoon, they are secretary general of the National Economic and Social Development Mr Arkom Termpittayapaisith, and Lt-Gen Suraches Chaiwong.
