this was the first recommendation i got from a long time expat when i arrived in Thailand a few years ago.

i think it was a wise one. even if i know why it still doesn't make a sense and most of the time when i ask my wife or friends(Thai) they don't even know why nor bother to know why.

even the (rarely) great backround information given here don't help me really to understand the mind set of Thais- it (still) just seems ilogical to me...

do you really understand Thai's - i would love to but still haven't mastered it.

though i dont ask "why" i ask "how"

or shall i quit to understand the culture/ way of my host country?

I've tried too, but with zero results.... Now I just go with the flow, it's easier.....

But sometimes when I get on my high horse, there ain't stopping me... But like previously wasting my time...

may you are right.

it is just difficult to understand things are handled here.

most of the things which are right in the west are wrong here and vice versa..

don't wanna judge which is the right way- just want to understand,to get some logic behind it.may it helps to integrate to some point.

There is one and only culture in Thailand.

And that is MAI BEN RAI (Doesn't matter)

You follow that and you can't go wrong in anything.

Enjoy life in Thailand.

Nice of you to remind me.

I've got 2, a boy and a katoey.

Lend one to a Mr Soutpeel, the other day and he hasn't returned it yet.

I'm missing my boy, hope he is not mistreating him.

The only way to save your sanity here is to accept things the way they are. Takes some doing but those who manage it come to a compromise and life is less stressful.

Crazy chef: You are doomed. The next thing you will do is starting to learn the language (in order to better understand Thai-Culture).

I did so. Much to my regret. Once you understand basic-Thai and without the Thai's knowing that you understand some basic-Thai, what they talk about you and Farangs in general, you don't want to understand.

Once I was a happy tourist with no local language skills. These days, as a resident, I can only say: The former magic of Thailand has evaporated within the mist of understanding a good part of their language and their general assessment of what a Farang is. As said, you don't want to know.

Cheers.

unfortunately i understand already some Thai- but for me it is more "amusing" . i love it when they talk about farangs and i ask( in Thai) "why are you so nasty"...
