Abhisit warns new govt of tough challenges ahead

BANGKOK: -- The Prayuth Cabinet is expected to face tough challenges as it guides the country through reform in the face of plummeting prices for produce, limited budget funding and a volatile world economic situation, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said Tuesday.

He said two major issues present problems for the new government: the difficulties in pushing for progress in its reform mission and dealing with the country's economic problems as the government has limited budget.

"A huge chunk of the 2015 fiscal budget, worth over Bt100 billion that was approved by House, has to be used for debts incurred from populist policies at the expense of development projects. On the reform front, everyone wants to see reform but once the button on energy reform is pushed, there will be differences of opinion,'' Abhisit said.

It is good to see the Right Honorable Ahbisit giving constructive criticism and advice honed from his education at Oxford and Eton.

He is not running away and he is not staying silent. He is not projecting a negativity seen by the shadowy undemocratic PTP (oh yes, one principle of democracy). There is no "this won't work" or "I was forced to come to this meeting" or "I don't want to be on the NRL because I won't be eligible to be a minister" All selfish, self serving, greedy and self centered responses by morons that show why reform is needed. Those are the attributes of gutter folk, not politicians.

He is a shining beacon offering advice to benefit…..guess who? Yep, the voters, the population. The people of Thailand. Not just 7% mind you. The whole country.

What a refreshing change and it is nice to hear the input. Lets see if the Junta take his advice.

In a similar vein, Abhisit warns of another coming rainy season, followed by potential drought. Further, TAT predictions, he said, may not come true. Best of all, he stated that the creator of the Yellow Shirts was wrongfully convicted and will be exonerated of all charges once the statute of limitations has run out, the old man has expired, or both.

He also predicted Suthep would only remain a monk until the junta is over and that the earth might indeed continue to orbit the sun.

The last prediction is considered debatable, of coursetongue.png

At least he had the balls to stand and fight. Not like some other self-centred coward you could mention.

Actually, he didn't have much of a chance. Besides the protests that went on while he was PM, the world economies were in meltdown. Most economists believe that he and Korn actually managed the Thai economy very well considering how most other countries were faring.

actually abhisit has done exactly what he said he would, not hinder the junta while it reforms the policies in Thailand. He has stood by and only commented on what he is seeing unlike the ptp leader who had his paid terrorists killing people and blowing up children in his attempt at getting the country to do what he wanted. All we can do is laugh at the ptp/red apologists that are still smarting over yl's & the reds disintergration after the junta jumped all over them and showed the country exactly what sort of pathetic patsies & terrorists for thaksin they all are. Lets see what is happening in a year, who is still around and who is either hiding out overseas or in jail.

Abhisit is a divisive figure. Why don't they tell him to shut up, just like they told the red lot to shut up?

Seems he has been given a forum in the censored press to pontificate, but nobody else has been given that privilege.

They don't tell him to shut up because he's being constructive rather than just whining.

There are indeed some to whom Abhisit is a divisive figure. I heard that to some he's still the guy from the tape saying "shoot me some". On the other hand we have some real tapes (thanks to PTV) of UDD shoutcasts full of truth as we should see it.

As for pontificate, well anyone else could pontificate in a similar matter. Speaking about challenges the NCPO and NLA faces, the need to get the population to participate and help move the country forward. Etc., etc. Why, even you could do such. As Thai you'd be praised for your positive attitude and will to help thumbsup.gif

Hes a Newcastle United supporter, and thats not easy,so please

So where has that coward been hiding???

He's not been hiding anywhere as far as I know. I think he was around a few days ago when there was the court decision about his murder charges. He's a politician, or at least he was and since there's no parliament for hi to go to I expect he's found other things to do. I haven't seen him running away fro anything, have you?

All he's done is point out some of the problems ahead although I'm certain most people could see them anyway.

His problem is he's able to string a few words together that make sense.

He didn't have a majority either.

Of course he was a puppet of the military (apparently) so if there were any problems with the way he governed the country then I suppose you'll have to blame the army rather than him.

First. I´m not a PTP/UDD/Thaksin/etc,etc-fan, like many others here even though I and many with me are being called that just for critizicing the ´other´ side.

And many have just stopped commenting on this site including myself for the most part due to all the American Tea-Party-Yellow look-a-likes, but I just have to say that when I read your posts dj and some other posters, all i´m reading is kiss abbhisits a$$ and kiss sutheps a$$, and your posts just get blurred together after reading two lines.

When people can´t be constructive from both sides of the fence it´s no wonder the whole F:ing world is going down the drain.

Really Ahbisit has nothing constructive to say and rarely has, he should shuffle of gracefully in to the night.

Its risible for him to bemoan populist policies damaging the economy when he and his party handed out 2000 baht (cost 18 billion in total) cash payments during his gerrymandered tenure.

I fail to see how this failed politician has any relevance in the current climate....

This is a joke right? If you think Abhisit and group are good for the country, you are part of the problem.

Abhisit talking about reform. Is this stand up comedy? Not sure if Thailand has ever had a politician who engaged in LESS reform than Abhisit. He was a complete failure as PM. He accomplished a fabulously small amount during his tenure, and was responsible for overseeing one of the most divisive periods in recent history. He is in no position to speak now, and should just retire from politics. He has nothing to offer anyone.

Don't seem to recall much comment from the Messiahs Shinwtras supporters when the Messiah Shinwatra ordered his acolytes not to interfere with the Prayuth administration a week or so back.

So could you disciples of the Messiah Shinwatra explain why the Abhisit comments are out of place yet your Messiahs Shinwatra's comments are treated with the reverence that Moses received when he came down the mountain with the 10 Commandments?

Ummm ... Yingluck. Was there ANY reform while she was PM?

So where has that coward been hiding???

Perhaps he should have demonstrated his bravery, and connections with the ordinary people, by flying-off first-class to a slap-up family-party in Paris, then returned on a private-jet & being smuggled back into the country past the waiting journalists ? Oh no, that's the other one ... whistling.gif

And might I add, stay for a trumped up court case and Mark had plenty of opportunity to flee, not like a coward that's well known.

"Without checks, there is a risk of abuse of power. I would like to see transparency and disclosure of information. The media must be allowed to criticise and present views," Abhisit said.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/757003-timeframes-for-tasks-add-pressure-on-govt-pm-prayuth/

From the same speech, another fine example of the alleged "coward" saying the truth, or 'being irrelevant and toeing-the-line', as some misguided people might try to claim ? wink.png

IMO he's right in what he says, about these things, whoever's mouth the words come from !

Regardless of what he says, isn't this supposed to be a time of reconciliation, where all political sides are told to shut up until the situation returns to "normal"? Reconciliation will be harder to achieve if one of the core supporters of leaders of the yellow shirts is allowed to have his say, repeatedly, while others are not.

As others have said here, he is a mere puppet of the military and has never been elected, so maybe this is just a sign of the military's true colours?
