Thanks for that.

Though it looks like it will be Hastin.

Ended up missing a turn off on the way to MIS and ended up nearly back in Isaan!

A bit more straight forward for the missus driving straight to Soi Siam country club (Hastin), from Naklua as I am away working every other month.

Thanks for all the help, its appreciated .

This is the first online forum I have joined by the way, although I have been a reader of TV for several years now, and it has definitely helped me out alot while settling in Thailand.

Cheers

James

That's what we are here for... mostly. Hope your sprog has a fun time at Hastin and if you are still in the area in a couple of years time, you can check again for Primary schooling ideas.

What are Hastin's hours btw? One of the clinchers for us with MIS was the 09:00 - 03:30 hours so you can easily get there after the morning rush that peaks just before 8 AM and beat the afternoon gridock before 4 PM on the way home. My wife was leery of the railroad crossings of which none have traffic lights (although some may have traffic cops at rush hours). Soi Siam Country Club (SSCC) is getting much busier these days so get your wife a GPS for the car and work out some alternative routes. Anything that avoids Sukhumvit is a bonus!

  • 2 weeks later...

My wife and I went to "open house" event at Maryvitt on the 15th this month for kindergarten and class 1 & 2.

When the kids attended to class all the parents went to a auditorium where the son of the founder explained how the school is performing compared to the rest of the schools all over Thailand and the plans for the school.

He even gave the speech in fluent US English as well, lol. He told us that Maryvitt is among the top 5% of all Thai schools in Thailand and they hold the record for the 3rd year in row for most students going to university per class. He also said that due to the ASEAN trade union that they try to improve on English and make some standards within the school.

I am sure this school is good enough for my son despite some says, ohh what a bad parent you are, get out of Thailand and bla bla.

I don't agree about that, in Denmark the schools completely lacks discipline and if some students don't wants to study they will be left alone and will either end up as brick layer or perhaps start their own company. As one poster correctly pointed out, a person that don't likes schooling might end up in a very good position later on if they have the "go".

I don't have to stay in Thailand but if I left it would be alone as my wife have told me several times that NO WAY will she be leaving Thailand, she is Thai and wants to stay here and I think it's easier for a man to live overseas than a woman, especially a shy person as my wife that likes her privacy that the Thai society and her house gives her.

And if some posters think I sit in the go-go's drinking beers and shag around because I live in Pattaya, I sorry to tell you that you are wrong, I very seldom goes out alone nowadays since I find it very boring but sometimes have a barbie at home with friends and their kids.

So I stay and my son stays at Maryvitt, amen.

I must have done something right as an estimated 400-800 kids at Maryvit have non Thai fathers.

Actualy chaipornvitte road is nearer to naklua than Siam Country Club, especially if you live at the bottom near the park.

IF you are at the bottom near the park drive up towards beach road about 100 meters there is a elecrical shop on the corner on the left handside, turn left there and drive up to sukumvit road, turn right onto sukhumvit and then more or less immediatley turn left, that road is then chaipornvitee, travel down there about 8km and turn left onto soi 25 all the schools are round soi 25.

Even quicker is to get on the 7 at north pattaya drive down for about 3 or 4km and there is little turn off on the left, think thre is a signpost for a new housing complex baan surin or something, follow signs for that (you will actually drive up the side of the 7 )and that is chaipornvitte 25 at the top .total drive time about 10 mins from north pattata to soi 25

My child is still at Phoenix Wittana school but I must say that someone has taken their eye off the ball here & student numbers seem way down.

A fair amount of the assistants have no English which makes it hard to be understood & the place is starting to feel run down.

I shall be checking out new schools now as there are holidays in October so might be an idea to start him afresh in November.

Any recommendations will be gratefully received.

Isn't that the University?

If it is, then my 8 year old must be an exceptional student!

Following the chronology of this thread, our lad was at MIS for less than 2 years but wasn't making any progress so we moved him to BEST where his learning and social skills have taken off like a bottle rocket. In all matters related to children's education here, your experience may vary.
