Who or was it decided that the spirits/ghosts/Buddha/ supreme being liked red Fanta as opposed to Coke or orange Fanta? The predominance of red Fanta on shrines is overwhelming. On the same subject what do all those stone zebras at a shrine on the 331 highway mean?

I think red and green fanta are mostly consumed by spirits, ghosts as they are devoid of taste buds, have been told that the red fanta is favoured by childrens spirits.

If it would be Germany, we would give beer for the ghosts. I think you would make a Bavarian ghost very upset with a Red Fanta.

Amazing that Pepsi hasn't come up with an alternative.

There is a Mirinda in red color.....not sure if the red version is offered in Thailand (I don't drink such things).

I was wandering through Yaowarat during Chinese new year and saw one of the local homeless drunks going from spirit house to spirit house sampling all the food and spirits placed as offerings. He must have had his fill as he wasn't walking too straight.

I've wondered the same for a long time and even though nobody could ever give me a reliable answer (not even the Thais), I'm quite sure it must have something to do with the color itself. Maybe there's a connection to China since red is considered there as a color for happiness and luck.

I remember the same topic on here a while ago.

Has something to do with the colour red bringing wealth, just like those gold shops use red all over them.

Have you ever seen a Thai drink Red Fanta ?

it seems to be only for shrines !

AND WHAT FLAVOR IS IT ANYWAY ?

Its strawberry flavour. So sickly sweet it makes sugar seem sour.

Ever heard the urban legend Fanta was made by Germans when Coke supplies in ww2 stopped?

Sorry for ot.

When red and green Fanta first appeared sometime around late eighties early nineties

one of them was called " American cream soda" flavour, the red I think but not 100%

sure on that could have been the green?? I do remember tasting it one time and it did

indeed taste like American cream soda but don't know what it tastes like now?

They put red fanta for baby spirits called gooman, or sounds like it.

That would make sense as most Thais tend to verbose their kids on sugar in the real world

However.... The definitive answer to the red Fanta has not been posted yet. I thought the wealth of knowledge on TV would provide an answer in no time at all.

As for all those zebras on the 331 maybe that question would be better in the Pattaya or Eastern local forums. I really would like to know.

If the Thai wife does not know about Thai customs who does, maybe she is wrong.
