Yesterday competed a successful mission at Kap Choeng Immigration, New Passport and Marriage Extension.

After spending about half hour at front desk with plenty of new forms to be signed on top of the many I had already completed we were passed thru to the main office where waited about 30 Mins, then went to the Lady Officer who looked at the papers and my two passports, she a number of discussions with the other two Officers, then came back and said, we can not do this, cannot change Ed Visa to Marriage, you will have to go back to Jomtien, she also said cannot transfer to New Passport either.

Quietly but forcefully I said but if Jomtien, Bangkok, Kon Kaen can why cant you? The nodded and then got on her Mobile and spoke to somebody for some time, while we waited, eventually she finished and announced to the office we can now do this !

So after that the Ed Visa was transferred to New Passport in a form of a stamp, which has heading VISA, and all other details, my Retirement Stamp dated until Yesterday, and my New Thai Wife, extension for 30 Days, the have to go back for one year extension.

I asked her they did not put new sticker in Passport she said she did not know why they do not have, but said the Stamp is the same thing!

We were then told Officers will be coming to see us at home sometime to check us out, they will ring and let us know when on the way, got Wifes Phone Number, also told they will need 500BT for Diesel, Some Food. and something to take home, ??

For Extension 1900Bt, Got Receipt, for Transfer of Visa ets 500Bt No Receipt, query, just got a smile!

So walked ou a Happy Camper after 2 Hours,

It took me a couple of times of reading this post; however, to understand better... you were issued new passports and wanted the education visa in the old passport transferred to the new passport? Seems a little confusing... sorry

The visa itself is never transferred to the new passport, but information about the visa is recorded in the new passport, usually using a rubber stamp with some of blanks to fill in. Below is an example of such a record made in a new passport (the stamp at the top). Different offices may be using different stamps:

Transfer%2520-%2520stamps%2520old%2520to

In the above example, the passport holder appears to have made the transfer upon departure at BKK airport. Somebody on an extension of stay should have it done at his local immigration office.

My Stamp is quite different from the ones shown, I note one is Dated 2001! Mine clearly says Visa at the top of stamp, I can not show it at the moment as my scanner is stuffed getting new one next week.

The officer also said we have only just started transferring Visas, she speaks quite good English and I speak a Little Thai, but understand more..

The Arrival Departure card was also transferred but I think still have to show old Passport if leaving Thailand, not sure about that.

Thats It, Kap Choeng is a good Immigration Office in my opinion, they went out of there way to help.

The visa annotation stamp I got last year does not say visa at the top. There is visa within it but that is the one for the passport page since they did the stamp as high as possible on the page.

I think you will find that all they did was staple your old departure card in the new passport. I still have my old one from 2008.

You can retire you old passport. You will no longer need it.

You will have your extension stamp and a re-entry permit in the new passport. That is all you need to leave and re-enter the country.

My visa info stamp and transferred entry stamp follows.
