The NY Times travel section just came out with these 3 very interesting articles. I know some of our members talk about moving over there, or area already there, so thought I would post these for their benefit. The video of Cartagena is very well done. I love son music...

I lived in Costa Rica for 11 years. I left two years ago as it is very expensive now, residency is not recommended and very dangerous for expats living there. Not as dangerous for tourist if staying at resorts with good security. Most expats that lived there for years moved to Medellin, Colombia. I heard that Cartagena is very interesting. The Bush family has a ranch in Uruguay. I knew one expat that moved from from San Jose, Costa Rica to Uruguay, bought a bar and was killed in his own bar. I never heard of anyone moving to Ecuador. Other ex-pats move to Panama, most left after a short time and then move to Dominica Republic.

We spent a few months checking out Panama and CR. A quick hop into Nicaragua, but that was a fast bust! 55555

We felt CR wasn't good value for the money. And security in both places was dodgy. I've got a good friend who's been there for 20-30 years, his father bought a bunch of land near Flamingo Beach back in the 50's. When he goes to San Jose, he goes with a body guard and driver!

But an absolutely fantastic country as a tourist. We LOVED it! Met many nice people. Especially Canadians escaping the winter. A few are still close friends with us.

Where did you live in CR???
