UK 'raises concern' over bikini remarks by Thai PM

The remarks were not the best, and pretty insensitive. However, an apology has been made, it's not exactly the first time a PM has said something idiotic, and it won't be the last time. It was not The Generals finest hour, however he can certainly atone for it by making sure that The BIBs investigation is stepped up to find the murdering scum.

Regarding dress, some of the sights we have to endure in public places these days is disgusting. Bikinis and speedos, fine on the beach or swimming pool. Walking around shops, streets etc is disrespectful and offensive, and there is no need for it. Thailand has always been conservative on this, it is tolerated but not liked at all. Would people do it in their own country?

"Thailand has always been conservative on this,"

Uh huh...

What an absurd allusion to an illusion. wai2.gif.pagespeed.ce.goigDuXn4X.gifwai.gif.pagespeed.ce.ptXUXgG4cA.gif

Believe it or not, life goes on outside of the red light districts.

Well done for showing your lack of awareness

Quite aware my friend, of the misogynistic nature here.

And it’s not just in the Red Light Districts.

As was grandly illustrated by recent comments by the PM.

Deputy govt spokesman says PM sorry over 'bikini quote'

BANGKOK: -- Deputy government Spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was sorry after learning that his comment over the murder of British tourists caused a furore.

Sansern said Prayuth was also sorry that part of his statement was selectively played up without taking his intention into account.

Sansern said Prayuth had good intention to protect tourists and wanted to see all sides cooperate to increase security for foreigners.

"Prayuth was also sorry that part of his statement was selectively played up without taking his intention into account."

Really, perhaps he'd care to fully outline what he intended to say?

as far as I can see he's repeated himself......

"He affirmed he had never intended to insult foreigners but was only trying to encourage them to give more importance to their own safety during their visit by refraining from dressing provocatively." - coconuts

If you see a nutter driving a bi bike and 150 km ph then you obviously think - dangerous. If you see some young attractive girls walking around almost naked then do you not also think - dangerous. If not then your a fool.

Well... I don't know about you but when I see "young attractive girls walking around almost naked" I don't think - "dangerous"... I rather think - "beautiful" or "nice face, boobs, ass etc... maybe I will try to buy her a drink ;)"... If someone is thinking "dangerous" about girl like that then is definitely something wrong with him... To thinks "dangerous" is like thinking "she shouldn't wear like that because is just bad" and the same is acceptance that someone can hurt her just because what she is wearing !!! This way of thinking is not only foolish but is sick !!! If man can't keep his d...k in his pants he should stay in some facility for mentally ill... coffee1.gif

Then again, he might be confessing the 3rd world primitive nature of males is such that it poses danger to females who they find appealing .?

So unable to control urges Tourist woman could be subjected to rape or worse?

And subconsciously , shifts blame to the very source of Thai mens tormented minds- exposed to such things.

Farang woman.

It's on the slippery slope towards "she's gagging for it"

What difference does it make if she is? Do you murder and rape everyone who wants sex?

Duh! - are you being deliberately obtuse?

No. I am at a complete loss. Why would a woman wanting to have sex have anything to do with rape and murder? Do you think a woman wanting to have sex means she wants to have sex with any man? Do you think that a woman wanting to have sex is fair game to be raped and murdered? I'm not being obtuse I have no idea what your are talking about.

I like this guy. He speaks the truth. Unlike politicians who invariably lie everytime they speak. Of course this is a terrible terrible act and there can be no excuse. But he doesn't mean that. Why do people like to self sensor themselfs with all the PC stupidity.

If you see a nutter driving a bi bike and 150 km ph then you obviously think - dangerous. If you see some young attractive girsl walking around almost naked then do you not also think - dangerous. If not then your a fool.

----------------

also to anyone that actually thinks that there is free speach in UK papers then they simply need to look at the way the papers have been covering the Scottish Independence issue. Completely biased. If anyone actually ever thinks the BBC is anything but a governement propagands organisation then i have a bridge in london for sale.

God bless Thailand

So you implying that the UK are attempting to destroy the Thai tourist industry via their controlled press and the BBC???

Because that is the only reason I can think that you even raised the subject.

Also, there are plenty examples of TAT posters advertising Thailand as a beach holiday destination with bikini clad women on the sand.

Of course Thailand hasn't got the world's largest and most aggressive sex industry or where kiddy porn can be found for sale on the street..... Have they.... That's all fantasy and the Thais are ultra conservative. Very respectful aint they... Don't buy and sell humans as slaves and of course are 100% placid non-violent people who don't have problems with school children killing other school children.

God bless Thailand...... and its alternating reality..... when it suits them of course.

norms of western culture do not fit with norms of asian culture. think about that. could save your life or one of your close loved ones lifes one day!

maybe someone had better tell that to all the Chinese girls I see wondering around in bikinis

Perhaps they are "wondering" because they are not sure.

Seems we can watch tourist numbers fall further .

Our travel agent said she had 27 people change plans since the murders took place.

Thailand is really going to feel the pinch soon

Did you say going to feel the pinch soon. Sorry look out there it IS feeling the pinch now.

Stop all the nonsense here please.

Thailand sure doesn't have kiddy porn, serious. If you ever see that you should go to the police and report them, they sure will be arrested.

Also the general was on tv for a long time tonight and apologised deeply because he was understood wrong. He only tried to warn all western girls to not wear the small bikini's in Thailand, that's all.

This general has caught the chief of the police red-handed while he was selling a big quantity of drugs. It takes balls to do that and this man was so brave to do it. He is fighting corruption and make thailand a better place for all.

You forgot the most important part, I think.

I may be wrong in this, but for a moment it did almost seem he said something like "TVF members are not required to wear decent clothes before they can do any posting".

I'm sorry I have to ask this, but are you talking about PM David Cameron or about PM Prayuth ?

Both seem to have staunch defenders and both seem to have staunch distractors.

When he was asked I'd say PM Cameron was more worried about being PM of a NLUK (aka No Longer United Kingdom). Somehow I doubt he spent more than 10 secs on this news item, agreed (privately) that it was "much ado about nothing" and "please don't bother me with such trivial things". Surely you having studied in Cambridge can understand when someone makes an off-the-cuff remark about 'fine females in bikinies being a danger to good morals'.

The Daily Mail website should permanently be block to safe guard all innocent Thais.

I am not sure if they have been paid by Thaksin or what, but lately have been publishing a lot of negative things about Thailand, and some info is not exactly true. For example, it say Prayuth came to be PM from coup. Not true. Prayuth was elected by >97% of the voters.

Yesterday, Daily Mail has gone non-stop bad mouth Prayuth about his comment to alert women not to expose themselves too much. That is a very good fatherly advise. Nothing is wrong with that.

What rubbish. There has been no General Election therefore the General was not voted in by the people.. He has that role because of the Coup, fact.

How is a woman wearing a bikini on a beach exposing herself too much? Do you live on this planet, bikinis are worn safely all over the world on beaches all over the world but no one would ever be stupid enough to suggest that a beautiful woman wearing a bikini on the beach was asking to be raped and murdered,, at least not until now.

It is a stupid and insensitive comment that the poor, grieving family now have to read and it came from the PM of Thailand. Bikinis are sold all over Thailand, what does he want to do next, ban bikini sales to women who are beautiful? Who makes the judgement if they are ugly enough not to be at risk? Do you not see how totally stupid this comment was?

This does absolutely no good for the reputation of Thailand when the "leader of the country" is making remarks like this in the wake of a brutal murder.

I can assure you that people across the world will be reading his comments in disbelief exactly as I am.

Get your girlfriend to try wearing a bikini in ANY Arab country, probably Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei or most Muslim countries and see what happens to her and you.

Most people across the world will not be interested in reading what the PM of Thailand said. They will be too busy down at the pub, watching mindless soap operas of on Facebook etc.

So you've never been to Malaysia or Bali then?

I make you right on all counts. Prayuth is unfairly getting battered over this. He did also mention that Thailand is not as safe as the countries many tourists come from and still has problems. To both apologise and make such a statement shows quite how progressive he is. No face nonsense there.

Fair play to the general for finally offering his condolences. I hope he's not so quick with the 'off the cuff' remarks next time.

It's a matter of 'walk a mile in them there shoes'.

He'd probably been wrongly briefed that the victims were making out on the beach. Not being of the diplomatic corps and having been rather direct his whole life and certainly of late, he genuinely 'mis-spoke' to coin a Hilary Clinton phrase,

It's my opinion Prayuth needs all the backing he can get, because he's the first leader in that country I've seen trying to sort the problems out. I say this with selfishness in mind, my kids futures depend on the success of his mission.

Do we know that they were not making out on the beach?

Call me old-fashioned but when a couple have chosen a quiet dark spot amongst some boulders at 3:00 in the morning after a night at the bar or beach party, the probability is they are having a bit of harmless hanky-panky.

I didn't know a final determination had been made in either case but there was likely a DNS swab performed around her mouth which could easily determine as much.

Ofcourse, the simple fact is it has nothing whatsoever to do with apprehending the killer(s).

The fact is no one knows anything. From reading through the mass of vague information so far it looks like more than one assailant. It's a right old mess.

One thing's for sure, the victims were good people.

Sorry mate but when i hear the name Cameron it makes me think of sharia, 700 gang-raped girls from 12-14yo, and nothing they are gonna do about it even not when the police was informed about it. Do i have to go on? You guys better wear bikini's all day because it might be over with that next year when the sharia kicks in.

The Thai general is very busy reforming thailand and i'm very happy with that. We all have been waiting for that since ages!

When will you guys fight for your rights? I guess it's to late allready.
