Pattaya Canal Murderer caught by Police

PATTAYA: -- On Monday, residents of a small community in Naklua, which is situated around a canal, were shocked to discover the body of a man, floating-face-down in the water, who appeared to have been murdered.

Banglamung Police initially received a call from Khun Boonluan aged 43, a resident, who first spotted the body of the unknown man, presumably a Thai National, floating underneath a bridge. The body continued to float along the canal until it was recovered by rescue workers.

An inspection of the body revealed head and upper body injuries and it was estimated the man, who was not carrying any ID, had been dead for approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Khun Boonluan, claimed she knew who the killer was. He was named as Khun Somporn aged 40, who lives 20 meters away from the bridge and works as a street refuse collector. The victim was seen with him 5 days before the apparent murder and the pair were seen to argue on regular occasions.

Police were able to detained the suspected killer in front of a disused Petrol Station in front of Soi 15 on the Sukhumvit Road in the Northern outskirts of Pattaya some hours later, and he was then taken to Banglamung Police Station where the suspect reportedly confessed to killing the unnamed victim after the pair drank together on the previous night.

If only they were all that easy! Although it makes one wonder the conditions under which the 'formal' interview was conducted at the police station and the speed with which a 'confession' was obtained. Did the suspect receive legal advice before making an alleged confession? Was the 'formal' interview video taped? etc etc etc.

Please send those Pattaya cops to Kho Tao ASAP, they seems to be switched on and know

the job better than those holidaying Kho Tao cops...

The killer was named, a good job by police picking him up and getting a confession but not the

same league of difficulty as the Kho Tao murders.

The offender are previous convicted for murder, sexual assault and drugs.

Another of Pattaya's finest.

I don't know how it works in Thailand but I hope they increases the sentence accordingly when he is a 2nd time convicted murder.

Basically lock him up and trow the key away sounds good to me.

Too funny. I can see it now. Two men that hate each other and fight and argue every time they see each other. But one guy says to the other, hey mate, do you want to go for a beer.

I think it must have been a drinking duel.

Nothing funny in murder except in a mind so inclined by drink.

Not really. They were told who did it and stupidly allowed the informants name to be published. Let us hope there are no angry relatives of the accused around.w00t.gif

I've never been in trouble with the Thai Police, but I do wonder sometimes at the speed with which they obtain confessions. Are suspects cautioned, read their rights,(I believe it's called Miranda in the US) are they allowed a 'phone call, a lawyer, are their interviews recorded? Somehow I doubt it.

Just what Thailand needs--the Western system of making the killer into a victim.

Next thing you will be arguing for Thai prisons to offer college courses and exercise equipment ;-)
