Started looking at flights for flying to Thailand from London for 4 week Xmas holidays.

The cheapest I found with different search engines was around £800 return.. is this normal :o? and this isn't even a straight flight..

Earlier this year I bought a direct flight for £650 (low season) and a flight with one change in Dubai for £480 during last high season. Were they just cheaper perhaps because of the coup I'm wondering?

Will the flights get any cheaper last minute?

Cheers

Flight prices vary a lot.

Try checking again next week, it could suddenly be a few hundred pounds cheaper, or other cheaper alternatives (other airlines/routes) could arise.

On the other hand, 800GBP is still not crazy expensive all things considered (high season, 10h round trip etc).

Booked mine from Munich to Bangkok over Christmas, but due to the wife wanting to travel in style best price was via LHR and HKG with BA and Cathay Pacific

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look again next week. It seems quite expensive as that's not even a direct flight, it's with 1 change and about 15 hours. Last high season I had one for £480 in high season with a change.

Without dates, this thread is useless.

Looking to travel there on the third weekend of Decemeber and to return around the third weekend of January

I did a recent search for LHR to BKK based on flying out on December 5th (before the claimed price rise date of 10th) and returning on January 3. I couldn't find anything under £800 and direct flights were over £1000, compared with less than £900 for Thai last year. So I think the OP may be correct to say prices are a little high at present,

Flying at the weekend is always more expensive. If you're willing to fly on Xmas Eve and return on the 14th January Air China will take you for £520. It is via Beijing and it's 20 hours each way though.

800 is a lot, use last minute. Com and you can see the prices for everyday of the month. Also try sky scanner and search for the whole of the UK to bkk, you may find cheaper flights going from other UK airports. I have just got a flight for 220 from Amsterdam to bangkok, obviously had to get to Amsterdam first

Have sent you a PM. It's also available from the 21st with a later starting time of 12.20 pm. So easier to catch a connecting flight. You are looking at around £600 or less, in total

Skyscanner.net can be a good site to search. If you're looking at the airline's website use "Private browsing mode" or a similar setting so you won't get a cookie. The airline knows how many times you've visited their website and the price goes up. thumbsup.gif

I've already sent the OP two options between £550 and £600 mark....if he wakes up that is.

Sorry I haven't been online for a while been busy with stuff. Thanks so much for taking your time to help me! Definitely better options than what I found.

Will have to book soon - thanks!

For those looking for a super peak flight; 20th of December to the 4th of Jan, London to Bangkok, there is still availability at £570. Not bad for those particular dates.

Can I ask who you use to get these prices please?

You said you would "look again next week" If you are serious about trying to get a good deal this late that's not the way to do it, deals can appear and disappear in the space of a day let alone in a week.

1). Sign up to daily email alerts on Kayak giving yourself as wide a date spread as possible.

2). Consider different airports, sometimes deals flying from Amsterdam or Rome, Dusseldorf etc returning to London can make the additional cost of an Easyjet flight worthwhile. Once again the key here is to play around with dates and departure airports on Kayak. A friend of mine got a sub £600 deal December flying Etihad LHR-KUL-BKK-LHR, fine for him as he was going to be heading down to Samui etc if he had flown into BKK anyway, this way he just heads up instead, fine for those with a less fixed itinerary.

TBH, if you are just fixed on heading into LOS on certain dates, or if you just want certain dates I think you just have to grin and bear it with the prices. Equally if you like to have some variation with your schedule, want to see new places, I pulled this off Kayak using the techniques I mentioned above. London (Heathrow)-Saigon (make your own way)Bangkok-London(Gatwick) £585, you could cruise around Vietnam for a week and catch a £30 AA flight into Bangkok. Might not suit you, might not suit your dates,( I was just entering random dates) might give others food for thought.

Step 1) still applies even if you are fixed on certain dates etc, key to the cheap flights at peak times is not just booking early but flexibility.

Is it a state secret?

Clearly not if it is posted in front of your eyes. Initially, it was to give the OP a chance to book, before leechers came upon it.

The OP already has his exact dates covered @ £540.

3rd of December is not Super Peak. That doesn't begin until perhaps a week later. ... returning the first weekend in Jan or perhaps the next.
