WARNING Will Robinson!!

If you want to avoid PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) specifically Baidu PC Faster which is an absolute nightmare to get rid of, download the .zip file rather than clicking on the "Download"button.

Does it take in to account the very specific requirements (not just sizes) some countries have for passport photos?

For my last couple of passport photos in Thailand I simply went to the nearby photo shop suggested by my embassy. They knew exactly what was required so little risk of the photos being deemed unsuitable. Visa photos are simple enough but passport photos aren't always so, and with the cost being cheap in Thailand it's hardly worth doing yourself.

Wholeheartedly agree on Baidu PC Faster...drove me nuts until a savvy friend was finally able to uninstall it.

When your computer innocuously inquires if you would like to speed your computer up by 40%....just say NO!

Err! No some things like background color you have to sort for yourself. Though if you click on the "Show Norm Mask" it will give guidelines to size and position of head.

About downloading stuff:- Never just click on the "Easy Recommended" option.

Go for the "Advanced Expert" option. Don't be put off by the "Expert" bit its only there to intimidate.

Nothing special about "Expert" all it does is give you the option NOT to install any crapware that come with the "Easy" install.

Check each install page and uncheck any extras that they are trying to load on you.

I have always done my own using photoshop.

Me too...plus I get to have the photo taken in my 50 baht tee-shirt but pick a computer-generated coat & tie for the photo--makes people think I own a suit. I'm so handsome in the final product...kinda like all the touched-up/flawless model photos in magazines.

From the Embassy Website :- https://www.gov.uk/photos-for-passports

Your photos must be:

in colour on plain white photographic paper

taken against a plain cream or light grey background

identical

taken within the last month

clear and in focus

without any tears or creases

unmarked on both sides (unless a photo needs to be countersigned)

unaltered by computer software

And below is what the U.S. passport renewal form says:

4. A RECENT COLOR PHOTOGRAPH.
 Submit a color photograph of you alone, sufficiently recent to be a good likeness of you (taken within the last six months), and 2x2 inches in size. The
image size measured from the bottom of your chin to the top of your head (including hair) should not be less than 1 inch, and not more than 1 3/8 inches. The
photograph must be color, clear, with a full front view of your face, and printed on thin paper with plain light (white or off-white) background. The photograph
must be taken in normal street attire, without a hat, head covering, or dark glasses unless a signed statement is submitted by the applicant verifying the item is
worn daily for religious purposes or a signed doctor's statement is submitted verifying the item is used daily for medical purposes. Headphones, "bluetooth", or
similar devices must not be worn in the passport photograph. Any photograph retouched so that your appearance is changed is unacceptable. A snapshot,
most vending machine prints, and magazine or full-length photographs are unacceptable. A digital photo must meet the previously stated qualifications, and will
be accepted for use at the discretion of Passport Services. Please visit our website at travel.state.gov for details and information.

However, but, when renewing my U.S. passport last year I used the photo taken in my 50 baht tee-shirt with a computer generated tan coat and black tie added...I just looked at my passport again to confirm....one "hansum", HiSo looking guy I am in this photo....my Mirror, Mirror on the Wall tells me the same thing.

All passport photos are technically altered by computer software because when anyone takes the photo, they still must 'correct' the positioning, crop, etc so that when it is printed, it will meet specifications. As far as the photo being 'recent' (between 1 and 6 months old), how often does one change in appearance in 5 years once they reach adult?

It costs 150 baht for 12 on photo quality paper and cut at the local fujifilm studio, done within 20 minutes if no one is in line. You just pull them out when you need to do visa/passport related business. It's going to be more if you try to find a 'foreigner-friendly' place right down the street from an embassy/immigration office Wouldn't you do-it-yourself people still have to buy photo paper? How much does that cost for the smallest pack?

I expect as long as the photo does not indicate any alternation of the "head and neck", any clothing actually worn or computer-generated is fine with passport agencies as long as the clothing does reflect anything that could be considered negative. In fact, I expect deep down the passport agency probably prefers photos which show a well dressed citizen of their country versus a citizen in a 50 baht tee-shirt.

That explains it, We never had a TV in the house sad.png

Not that we couldn't afford one, just my mom for some reason wouldn't allow it.

She maintained it killed conversation even though she was not a great conversationalist.

Though when visiting normal people that had a TV she couldn't keep her eyes off it.

Many times offered to set her up with a TV but guess after so many years if would seem like a failure to give in.

Never had a TV in the house till the day she died and she lived to be 100.

I've always had the PP photos done by a place in a small city I lived near. I would bring them a copy of the part of the application where it shows how big the photo and the size of the head should be. Can't recall the exact price, but couldn't have been more than 200 b. I wear a shirt with a collar and they have a tie for me. Afterward they ask if I want more pics and show me a room full of costumes.

For visa pics I'll get them at those booths in the malls, a whole sheet of them costs not much at all.
