Entering Thailand on a 30 day tourist visa /criminal record

Featured Replies

Hi

I just wanted to ask how strict is Thailand if someone enters for a holiday for 2 weeks from the UK with a recent criminal record(minor misdemeanour ) .

I understand uk citizens get visa on arrival .

Thanks

Thailand immigration cannot check for records from other countries.

You get a visa exempt entry not visa on arrival.

now the other thing I am looking into is say maybe in 5 years when I reach the ripe old age of 50 maybe to apply for a long term 1 year visa? I believe that may be an issue with a crim record?

For non-imm 'O-A' visa you need to submit your criminal record.

For non-imm 'O' visa and extensions of stay in Thailand, you don't.

So the non imm O visa is for 90 days , plus 30 exempt ? Also if I want to extend I can so for one year without any issue and each year on? Thanks

Non-imm 'o' visa is 90 days per entry, not extensible. You can extend as long you meet the requirements whatever they will be in 5 years from now.

Thailand wouldn't be a haven for foreign crooks if this was really an issue..

You talk about a minor misdemeanor but there's murderers, rapists and pedophiles entering Thailand on a daily basis...

Non Imm “0″

An alien must apply for a non-immigrant visa “code O” at a Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad before entering the Kingdom. Duration of first permit: As warranted by this visa, permission is given for a period of 90 days. Duration of extension: The Immigration Office will grant him a maximum extension of one year at a time.

It states here you can get an extension for a year?

You can get a 1 year extension if you are married to a Thai or eligible for retirement extension...

Cool.. That makes sense .. So even at my age of 45 now I can apply for a non Imm O without giving the details of my criminal record?

No you can't because you don't have any of the requisites.

So the requisite for a non imm O is you have to be 50 or over?

What about a triple entry tourist visa? Don't need to. Give crim record for that one too ?

there are various requisites. Being over 50 is one.

No, do not need.

Thanks .. So in summary non imm 0 visa : no crims checks but various rules..

Triple entry tourist visa : 3 months plus extension and no crim checks from this embassy in uk ..

Triple entry tourist visa : 3 months plus extension and no crim checks from this embassy in uk ..

Not three months. Three entries each 60 days plus one extension of 30.

So in total 270 days if you play your cards right with a crim record

Triple entry tourist visa : 3 months plus extension and no crim checks from this embassy in uk ..

Not three months. Three entries each 60 days plus one extension of 30.

Three entries of 60 days, each stay extendable by 30 days. So in theory, 60+30+60+30+60+30, although in practice it will probably total to slightly less.

The life of the visa (check the "use-by date printed on the visa) is from the day it is issued, not your first entry into Thailand, so you must make sure your third entry (or any entry for that matter) is before the "use-by" date printed on the visa.

You need to keep an eye on the expiry date printed on the visa and the expiry dates on your permissions to stay or extensions of stay stamps entered by immigrations when you enter the country and when you get each extension. Your final permission and extension of stay stamps will almost certainly extend beyond the life of the visa, which is fine as long as you don't attempt any further border exits & re-entries.

Thank you for that info . Main concern was if a person has a criminal record , but looks like as uk is visa exempt and also I can apply for the multi entry tourist visa ( saw the forms on line and nothing asked about criminal record) all should be ok .
