BANGKOK: -- While fears mount sluggish efforts are failing to contain West Africa's outbreak of Ebola virus, Thailand's state media today reports a Bangkok hospital has developed a cure.

According to its report, researchers at Siriraj Hospital have developed the world's first vaccine that can cure infected patients.

"The team was able to develop a special kind of vaccine that would produce antibodies to cure the Ebola virus," it claims.

On Thursday Udom Kachintorn, dean of the hospital's Faculty of Medicine, will hold a news conference to announce their discovery.

Siriraj Hospital develops a cure for the Ebola virus

BANGKOK, 29 September 2014 (NNT) - A team of doctors from Siriraj Hospital have reportedly made a groundbreaking discovery by being the first in the world to develop a vaccine to cure the deadly Ebola virus.

Doctors from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University have conducted a thorough research on ways to treat patients infected with Ebola. The team was able to develop a special kind of vaccine that would produce antibodies to cure the Ebola virus.

A press conference to announce the medical breakthrough is set for October 2, 2014 on the 2nd Floor, Room A201, of the Srisavarinthira Building. The press conference will be presided by Doctor Udom Kachintorn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.

So far, the Ebola outbreak has claimed thousands of lives globally and has a tendency to spread across other nations. As there was no known cure for Ebola, the doctors at Siriraj Hospital have made it an important priority to develop a vaccine for the virus.

Cure for Ebola?

I'm not sure it can be cured with amoxy.

lets hope this isnt like the announcement that they know who the killers on KT are, somehow I have great reservations about releases like this in Thailand. They usually turn out as something totally different but in this case I really hope not.

Have to admit to being a bit skeptical of this claim. Did it get to human trials? If not, then jumping the gun on this announcement. Then the steps of getting FDA approval internationally can take months to years. The below announced Sept. 17, 2014. Though they say vaccine rather than cure.

First British volunteer injected with trial Ebola vaccine in Oxford

If vaccine tested on Ruth Atkins and other healthy volunteers is found to work, it will be fast-tracked for use in west Africa

I hope they did find the cure and not ridicule themselves on the international stage.

No beating about the bush, we have the cure !

Oh Yeah! The same people who boasted a few years ago that they had the vaccine for HIV!

I hope they did find the cure and not ridicule themselves on the international stage.

100 cases or 101 cases, does it really matter?coffee1.gif

Why wait until Thursday with the pressconference, when ebola claims about 100 lives each day?

They should develope a vaccine to immunise people against for "Thainess!"

There is one already, it's called education.

I do hope they have a cure for it....not just eating ice creams!!!

I can't stop laughing....................

I must be true, with all the credibility Thailand has achieved last few must (NOT)

Cured for a viral infection? The first word that springs to mind is <deleted>.

The next thought is that I hope it is the media that has misquoted the hospital, because, if not, they are bigger fools than I thought.

They should have no problem getting Thailand's first ever Nobel prize then whistling.gif

Trials for drugs takes years and years....I will wait until it gets FDA approval. .

I'm sure they would like to test their new vaccine on all the illegal Burmese people first. Just to make sure it works okay.

Always thinking that they are better off than all other countries or foreigners. But what to expect from a semi-civilisation that is only a couple of decades old plus the modern world and technology is really too much for them.

"According to its report, researchers at Siriraj Hospital have developed the world's first vaccine that can cure infected patients."

Wow!!! This must be record time for developing the vaccine, conducting blind studies with various control groups, fully examine side effects and monitor the efficacy over an extended period of time...or...is that procedure only for inferior farang pharmaceutical companies who lack the knowledge. Unlike Thailand that always gets it right the first time. Let's hope it is better than their knock off Gucci bags. wai2.gif wai2.gif wai2.gif

I wonder if money or human charity will be involved?

Hope they have warned Swampy to expect a big rise in medical tourists from West Africa.

I'd have more faith in the claim if they could build decent pavements first

Yeah but unfortunately an education is not available in Thailand.
