wife says I need money she got none left for the week (she gets/has her own money) so I give her a few thousand thinking that will last her the 2 days till her money clears, she asks me to take her shopping so of course I get the car out and off we go, she buys loads of fruit bananas, orange, apple, ect about 700baht worth plus our usual food,we get home she goes for a wonder and comes back upstairs and says dont eat the fruit i need it for praying, ok I say, later she asks me what the numbers on the car reg are so i tell her, off she trots, now shes back with about 6000 baht worth of lottery tickets and has no money left not to mention all the fruit she bought to throw away, she says now we must be careful because we got no money ??? I was gonna pipe up but thought better of it as the rest of my week would be a pain. This really annoys me spending money on crap :(

Your choise 1)... ... ...Get used to it

or

2)... ... ...Grow a set, lay out the limits, let the chips fall where they do.

Don't chase replace.

this isn't the norm its just today, although when i do give her money she tends to waste it, so i dont give her any very often as I said she has her own money :)

OP, you are saying that she spends her own money.

Does she contribute to the household expenses?

Who pays all the bills in the house?

Do you share?

I doubt you do, but anyway as it seems it's the first time she asked you for money it's OK.

Make sure she is not going to make it a habit, except if you don't really care.

But if you don't why would you come up on TVF, complaining about that?

And the investigation continues....................................

That would do my head in .I do have a Thai wife myself but she earns her own money the hard way (by working ) .Hence she is very sensible .

As Super Chicken said to Fred, "You knew this job was dangerous when you took it." Women of all cultures spend on frivolity, as do many men. It's just whether the crazy factor intersects with the hotness factor at an acceptable point.

I'm not even going to read the comments.

Here's my opinion. Get a grip mate. My gf of 5 years laughed at this when I told her about it, bearing in mind she is an uneducated Lao girl.

If you have not noticed there is a vegetarian festival going on, lots of fruit everywhere, so just go with the flow.

Personally I just hate posts that say " grow a pair" . It's a macho response that might as well say beat your wife- who's in charge here!

You have married into culture that you will never understand , but maybe a friendly discussion will help.

Well the girl I know doesn't spend 6000 baht on the lottery. We have a child together and she would rather see the smile on my sons face. Is that the kind of smile you are talking about? Get a grip mate.

It's not a question of 'if', but 'when'.

No need to mention Thai or Lao though.
