Viset Road New Median

Featured Replies

There is a new concrete median being constructed on Viset Road from Sai Yuan northbound towards the chalong Circle. Good idea, bad idea; not sure, maybe safer.

But, it looks like there are no provision being made to go from one side of the road to the other side or to make a U-turn. Perhaps the median will be "reconstructed" at various intervals after construction is finished to make turn a-rounds possible? These u-turn spaces are needed.

I predict you will see a lot of motorbikes going against the traffic, at night without headlights just to make it more exciting :-(

Since everywhere where the nerw median is already in use that is happening already this is a fact, not a prediction.

I don't think it is more than in the past though, since the road has become a lot busier, and it is quite often safer to go a short distance against traffic than twice crossing the road.

I have seen it already on Viset road where ever the median ends will be a new place to make u turns.

So think ahead while driving this road, same as exiting Chalong Circle.

Before the wall ends get in the left lane to avoid the U turners..Always happens.

I driven around Thialand a while now and two things I have noticed. The whole country's Highway system is designed around these u-turns

(u turn signs everywhere even on major highways) and for safety the officials at any time will block these u turn cut offs for whatever reason and TOTALLY screw up the traffic flow. On my trip up to Issan last year around songkran the highway police had all the u turns for miles blocked off figuring it would improve traffic flow. WRONG all it did was force everybody to drive way out of there way to use the next u turn to get back to the original BLOCKED off u turn...geeez ..causing total gridlock at that intersection.

its end near my soi so it makes it really hard for me to turn right towards rawai beach. i expect a lot more accidents now all the u-turners are concentrated in one spot

Most Thais will hug the lane line and hog two lanes.

Thais are already doing this as not to drive to close to the median.

Driving and riding into oncoming traffic has always been Viset roads biggest threat but the strip just has then doing it far more.

The Thai obsession with u-turns is a major cause of both accidents, near-misses and traffic delays.

Anyone noticed how much better the traffic flows at Chaofa West in all directions since they installed the lights near Honda?

Even my gf commented that the roundabout system in the UK is much better and safer than the Thai u-turn system. But Thais and roundabouts......you only need to look a Chalong Circle to see that that would not be the answer!

I like the no indicator style of uturn.

Get to said uturn point and yank the wheel.

Also the uturns where Thais go slowly to bring traffic to a standstill so they may complete their illegal move.

You are absolutely right mitch, anyone who has just a small amount of experience driving around

Thailand, particularly on the larger highways, will know that these U-turns are imo without a doubt

the single most prolific cause of accidents if not deaths on the roads in Thailand, they should all

be closed. If I have to drive an extra 5 or even 10 kms. and it saves someones life then I am more

than happy to do so, it could be me or one of my loved ones lifes that is saved. They should be

renamed death turns. facepalm.gif

Don't you just love the way they will travel in the right hand lane at crawling pace for 2 o 3 clicks because they want to do u turn.

I drive the main Surat Thani to Bkk highway a lot and traveling at speed come out of bend to find some old wreck of truck doing 30 klms per hr indicating to turn right god knows how far up the road.

Yesterday a bus was making the u-turn, had to stop and back up twice to finally make it meanwhile other u-turners all backed up, nightmare.

Same is happening at Chalong circle every day, coming from Kata making the U-turn onto the circle. And it is a lot busier there.

Get used to it.

The main difference between the circle and Vichit ( the speedway) is the speed everyone is traveling. I can see a U turn by a bus on the speedway being a much more dangerous move then at the circle.

This is already happening, there are hundreds of them, seriously dangerous!

I do it more and more myself.

Coming from Soi Saiyuan onto Viset and having to take Soi Naamjai, I find it much safer to ghostride for 200 meters than cross Viset Road twice.

That is with the motorbike BTW.

I can imagine the people living in Suksan 2 are not happy about driving to Sai Yuan lights to get home.

Agreed, people that are lazy and don't want to wait for it to be safe to cross the road make the roads more dangerous. How many times do you see a guy riding the wrong way, forcing traffic going in the right direction out into the oncoming traffic, and then throw in a car parked out into the street and the situation is exacerbated. I have no love nor sympathy for people that don't obey traffic laws and cause problems for those that do follow the law.

I don't mind waiting, nothing to do with lazy. Just safer IMHO. And I make sure I don't cause any problems for others and don't force people into oncoming traffic. It would not be oncoming for them anyway.

I have love nor sympathy for people that don't adapt. Thanks for your sympathy BTW.
