Minister of Energy checks on Khon Kaen power plant

Khon Kaen, 5 October 2014 (NNT) – The Minister of Energy has visited a power plant in Khon Kaen province to get an overview of the energy status of the north-eastern region.

The Minister, Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, today made a visit to the Nam Phong power plant in Khon Kaen province to see the plant in operation. He was welcomed by the Governor of Khon Kaen, Kamthorn Thawornsathit and the assistant governor-generation 2, Nikul Silasuwan.

The minister then listened to a lecture on the procedures involved in power generation at this power plant. The plant has an area of 631 rai, is situated 32 kilometres away from Khon Kaen city centre, 3 kilometres away from Nam Phong gas field, and 63 kilometres from the Sin Phu Hom gas field.

Stability is the main focus of energy strategies. Gas and petrol must always be available for the people, as must fair pricing since the majority of Thais earn mid-range income, said the Minister of Energy.

The Nam Phong power plant has two generators that can operate on either natural gas or diesel. Each generator can produce up to 355,000 kilowatts of electricity. This power plant supplies a quarter of the electricity needed in the north-eastern region. Studies show that this power plant also causes less harm to the environment, than some others.
