Currently have insurance with Viraya with 1 million/ person and 10 million/ accident.

I'd like to increase it.

The sales person at Tesco doesn't think it can be increased.

Anyone have higher cover p/p?

What limits do you have and who is your insurance company?

Two year old Honda City 1st class 17,300 baht.

Everyone bases their decisions on what they have seen before.

In my country if you don't have enough insurance then you are responsible for amounts over your insured amount.

I'm thinking if I accidentally seriously injure or kill someone on a motorcycle the family will probably want more than one million after they see my foreign face.

I remember reading about a guy here on Thai visa that was in exactly that position. The family wouldn't negotiate down. No one on this forum had a solutiom for him. He fled the country because he was afraid to be incarcerated.

He had 1st class insurance but he didnt have enough insurance to satisfy the family of the deceased.

I don't want to find myself in that situation.

I understand Your Concern.Spooked by an Idiot Post. He certainly did not tick all the boxes, required by a Bona Fied Company.... Viraya wont let You down, bit slow sometimes, but solid , if You have played fair with them .Valid Licence, Vehicle up to Thai Rules etc...25 Years here and never heard of such a tale.

I don't know about the Bt10M per accident but you can definitely increase the per person from Bt1M to Bt2M and 3d party liability (property) coverage from Bt2.5M to Bt5M amounts for a premium I'm with LMG.

When a car goes 5 years old it's common practice by Thai insurance companies for the coverage amounts in those categories to automatically drop...and they can be lowered before the 5 year point also for a lower premium. And of course the coverage on the repair of your vehicle continues to drop year by year. Also something else that is common is if you have "Dealer Repair" coverage, at the 5 year point you'll probably only be able to get "Contract Repair" coverage....another one of those pretty standard changes at the 5 year point. Of course, every insurance company will have varying degrees of coverage available at a price...so a person needs to check around...probably best done with an insurance broker.

My policy says 2MB per person and 10MB per accident. As far as I know all those can be increased by paying an extra premium.

What company do you have?

My sister in law contacted a broker in her home province.

She was given a quote for LMG and was told the 1MB could not be increased.

She was told it depended on the type of the car.....which to me sounds very wrong.

Is there an LMG office in Bangkok that can quote the policy?

Yes, there is LMG offices in Bangkok....here's the LMG Thailand webpage: Link. I've only had to deal directly with LMG once for a claim where my spare tire was stolen around 4 years ago...that claim process went smooth with them. I have a Toyota Fortuner.

However, regarding this insurance policy adjustments I deal only with my insurance broker here in Bangkok who has direct access to LMG and numerous other policy adjustments. Did this adjustment around two weeks ago during my annual renewal. Dealt with this insurance broker company for the last five years....zero complaints...the person I always deal with speaks, reads, writes perfect English--and she is Thai. I will PM you the insurance brokerage info. Don't know if they deal with customers outside of Bangkok but you can ask.
