The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry will host the first World Rubber Summit in Bangkok from July 26 and 29.

Caretaker Minister Khunying Sudarat Keyurapan (สุดารัตน์ เกยุราพันธ์) said rubber growers and producers of rubber products from 16 countries will attend the summit. Khunying Sudarat said knowledge to be exchanged at the meeting should help Thailand in making its rubber value-added.

She said Thailand is the world’s largest rubber exporter but 90% of its exports are raw rubber.

Khunying Sudarat said the ministry will increase the country’s rubber production capability by expanding rubber plantations and conduct technological research to find ways to increase the quality and value of rubber.

The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry will push for Thailand to become Asia's hub of rubber development

The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry will turn Thailand into Asia’s hub of rubber development in the next few years.

Caretaker minister Khunying Sudarat Keyurapan (สุดารัตน์ เกยุราพันธ์) said technology introduced at the first World Rubber Summit which was opened yesterday in Bangkok will be used in developing Thai rubber products.

Khunying Sudarat said Thailand mostly exports rubber latex but not processed rubber which is value added. She said the country’s annual revenue from rubber exports could increase from 200 billion baht to 500-700 billion baht if it can develop rubber production and process technologies.

This sounds like an exciting event, however I am sure the climax will be restrained.
