It's a cultural thing, when I say to Thai people that we eat rabbit the find it disgusting because they see bunny rabbit as pet.

It had been illegally used as a substitute meat in ready meals for years and nobody knew, but what a fuss when it came to light.

Same with zoos that cut up dead animals and feed them to the carnivorous.

Seems nobody gives an "F" about animals bread on a farm destined to be slaughtered, but do a useful service by getting rid of few wild soi dogs, and it is so wrong.

Yes a service, we North American have a liking for pets, cat and dogs. Years ago I was in Inuvik NWT in Canada in the late 60's and was aware of the school teaching the Eskimos school children with the "Dick and Jane" books...and oh yes Spot the dog...the children have no idea of Spot being a household pet...it was a Husky that pulled the sled and was kept outside.

Conclusion that our belief of what a "Dog's duty" is belongs to the culture it was raised in. Here in Thailand I admire the owners of pets...seems they are well treated...some ride on scooters with their owners..the small ones while the bigger ones are more of watch dogs or guardians for smaller children. Now the sale of "Dog Meat" well that is in the culture of Asia... us being only visiting must just understand this...we take sides on both pros and cons of this abduction of dogs...Did you know in North American thousands of dogs that are caught without licenses to owners are destroyed. Enough said..."I am just the messenger...please don't shoot me"

While I congratulate the stray dog mentioned in your linked article for saving the newborn baby I do not find it sufficient evidence that we humans have to live side by side with what can be and often are dangerous animals. Should we have to tolerate stray dogs just so they can save an occasional abandoned human child. Wouldn't it be better to have other resources in place to ensure the baby was not abandoned in the first place. Many people are injured or killed each year by stray dogs.
