Tourist Visa or visa on arrival

Featured Replies

Haven't been here for awhile, almost feel like a newbie again!

Hopefully someone could answer my question. I did a quick search but wasnt sure if the info was up to date, due to the visa crackdowns.

I'm going to be in CM Thailand for 2 months from end of November.

Was thinking of just getting a visa on arrival, 30 days, then take a quick trip to Mae Sai for the stamp and then fly out after 60 days.

Is the border run stamp now 15 days for a visa on arrival renewal?

If so, if I obtain a tourist visa from my home country NZ, would I get 30 days plus a further 30 days with the Mae Sai border run?

Thanks in advance.

What you get arriving without a visa is called visa exempt entry, not visa on arrival that is something different.

To stay up to 90 days in country the best choice is to get a tourist visa in your country that allow 60 days extensible for 30 more.

Other options (border hop or extension to visa exempt) would cost and hassle more.

As said you will get a 30 day visa exempt entry. You can now extend that entry for 30 days at immigration. The fee is 1900 baht.

You may need to show a ticket out of the country within 30 days in order to board your flight to here if you don't have a visa.

You will only get a 15 day entry at Mae Sai.

It would be best to get a single entry tourist visa before making your trip.
