ED Visa and Visa Run Crackdown

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I would like to have your opinion about my specific situation. I have been visiting Thailand many times in the past years twice a year for a couple of weeks using the Visa Exemption. This year I decided to stay longer and I have used an ED Visa (6 months) from May to November so it's about to expire but I would like to stay one more month in the Kingdom before to come back to Europe. At the beginning I thought to go to Laos for a few days and re-enter using a Visa Exemption, but now I am a little worried I might have troubles after the changes of immigration policies in August 2014. I am now wondering if there will be no problem since I can show the return ticket to Europe in December or if it's safer to go to the Thai Embassy in Vientiane to apply for a proper Tourist Visa. I have never done Visa Runs neither worked illegaly and I can print an attendance record of my school other than the return ticket home. Your suggestions will be very appreciated, thank you.

It will be no problem to get a visa exempt entry. Only if you were on a exempt entry now would you possibly have a problem.

You will only get 15 days at a border crossing unless you are from a G7 country. But you can now get a 30 day extension at immigration of that entry.

Thank you, I also think it will be ok, maybe just overworrying. I am Italian so I suppose I will get the 30days exempt. Cheers :)
