Singer Alvin Stardust dies aged 72

(BBC) Singer Alvin Stardust has died aged 72 after a short illness.


Born Bernard Jewry in the East End of London in 1942, his hits included My Coo Ca Choo, Jealous Mind and I Feel Like Buddy Holly.

He had recently been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer and died at home with his wife and family around him.

The former glam rock star had been due to release his first studio album in 30 years this autumn.

Never heard of him but he brings bad back memories of a wannabe Elvis impersonator who could be auditioning for the Village people.

Elvis impersonator? I think not.

Apart from being extremely popular in his day, he taught a generation of kids how to cross the road in the 1970s.

One of my favorite performers when i was growing up,still play his music to this day,one of the glam rock legends from the 70's R.I.P

He was no Elvis impersonator, I do hope they have enough material to release that album.

Apparently the album was completed, and will be released.

Should be interesting.

Also performed as Shane Fenton and the Fentones in the late sixties

Absolutely correct, I saw him and the group live,in the the Winter Gardens Penzance Cornwall, when groups had to sing when they were on the road,and not mime!
