Popular Post Costas2008 Posted October 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 26, 2014 Dear members, I would like to share with you my love for ferrets. The ferret (Mustela putorius furo) is the domesticated form of the European Polecat, a mammal belonging to the same genus as the weasel. What a beautiful creature it is. What a tamed pet and companion it could be. Difficult to tame them at the beginning, but with patience, love, affection and lots of wooing, can be yours for life. Here is some facts about ferrets, I read in Wikipedia. The name "ferret" is derived from the Latin furittus, meaning "little thief", a likely reference to the common ferret penchant for secreting away small items. Ferrets are crepuscular, which means they spend 14–18 hours a day asleep and are most active around the hours of dawn and dusk. Like many other mustelids, ferrets have scent glands near their anus, the secretions from which are used in scent marking. It has been reported that ferrets can recognize individuals from these anal gland secretions, as well as the sex of unfamiliar individuals. Ferrets may also use urine marking for sex and individual recognition. When excited, they may perform a routine commonly referred to as the weasel war dance, characterized by a frenzied series of sideways hops and bumping into things. I hope, I educated you enough about Ferrets, so now go and find your own. You can’t have mine. And for those that don't know what a ferret looks like, here is a picture. 3
