Apec summit: World leaders gather in Beijing

(BBC) Leaders from China, Russia, Japan, the US and other Asia-Pacific states are in Beijing for a two-day summit.

Bilateral meetings between top leaders will take place on Monday, followed by a formal leaders' summit on Tuesday.

There is speculation Chinese leader Xi Jinping could meet his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, for the first time, after months of tension.

The meeting comes as China looks to underline its growing status as regional leader and economic giant.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) summit is the biggest event hosted so far by Mr Xi, who took over the Chinese presidency in March 2013.

Leaders from the 21 Apec member nations are attending the Beijing talks.

Both US President Barack Obama and Russia leader Vladimir Putin will deliver speeches later in the day.

The significance of this cannot be understated.

Last year the CCP same same party and state media made it clear Xi Jinping would never ever deal with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, much less meet with him. Yet here they are shaking hands. Xi said nothing during the greetings, but they did speak in private.

Prez Obama's fingerprints on Xi's still twisted arm are almost visible in the photo.

This is a serious hit to the PLA, the equivalent of a swift kick to the lower front of the PRC military which has been salivating for a lightening military strike to seize disputed islands in the East Sea from Japan's control. It also reassures everyone that the CCP Boyz still have control over the PLA's wild warlord generals.

It's also a severe setback if not the destruction of the CCP's design to try to separate the US from its treaty allies and friendly governments in the Indo-Pacific strategic region.

The CCP Boyz in Beijing have had to swallow hard on this one, in part because of the extremely and widespread negative reactions throughout the region to their belligerence and bellicosity towards neighboring countries, from the East Sea and Japan to the South China Sea and the several affected Asean countries, to border disputes against India.

Well, it’s a start.

After years of tensions over disputed territory, disputed history and visits to a certain shrine, China and Japan drew closer to establishing a more functional diplomatic relationship with a handshake on Monday between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing.

As the video bellow suggests, the encounter was a tad on the chilly side, with Mr. Xi apparently refusing to return his counterpart’s greeting and looking throughout the photo op as if he’d rather be shaking hands with one of the goats that are said to be stripping the aforementioned disputed Diaoyu/Senkaku islands of their scant vegetation.

The reality is that the CCP Boyz in Beijing know that in order to become a global power they must first become a regional power which will not happen.

It will not happen because the region has Japan and India which the CCP are recklessly menacing militarily and diplomatically over territory it claims to be the rightful inheritance of Chinese emperors (a good number of which were Mongrels Mongols).

The region also has South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Australia, Asean. Several Asean countries are the target of the CCP's brute force and economic corruption. The CCP Boyz are unable to dominate or persuade any one of these and other countries of the region to include Asean.

Five of the countries are US national security allies: Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand. Singapore is a major US Naval facility and a virtual national security ally of the US.

How's all that for focus.

None of this is addressed when one resorts to rhetoric about dog's eyes, payout stations, hound dogs, bargirls, licking wounds, Putin, Palestine or whatever other diversions. One needs instead to explain Chinese vices such as dictatorship, censorship, indoctrination, statism, cyber theft, intellectual property theft, the rule of men over the rule of law; Marxism, systemic and endemic massive corruption as a way of life and a proliferation of other negative traits and characteristics that are disqualifiers to regional and global leadership.

Well that certainly is cordial of you! All the same, it clearly looks like PM Abe of Japan won this one at the APEC meeting yesterday in Beijing.

The fact is the CCP's national curriculum teaches that Japan and the Japanese are the enemies of China and of the Chinese people.

You say Abe got "dog's eyes" from Xi Jinping. I do see "dog's eyes" in the photo above but Xi wasn't even looking Abe in the eye, which I know, yes, is an East Asian trait or cultural characteristic.

The fact is Xi through his CCP and PRC media had been stating since last year that Xi would not deal with Abe at all, ever. Abe had been unsuccessfully seeking a personal meeting with Xi since Abe came to office in December 2013 and hadn't ever got one. It was Washington that twisted Xi's arm to have this meeting. No, China is not in charge.

The ten countries of the Trans Pacific Trade and Investment Partnership account for $27 Trillion of global GDP, 26% of global trade and 800 million people.

The ten countries of the TPP are the US, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Peru. South Korea has begun sitting in on the negotiations with the expectation it will become the 11th Partnership member with more to join down the line.

Neither China nor Russia are invited and the same is true of India.

I really feel sorry for all them so desperate to leave. I actually dated a beautiful, wealthy, independent girl from Shanghai before I married my wife in 2010. She lived here in the States and was a computer tech person for a large company, she was the one you call at 1:00 am when you get hacked or a system goes down.

She had a super cool home and set up her gas wok cooking system in the garage. Best cook and one of the sweetest girls I have known. My preference is that blond hair, blue eyed, long legged Russian look so I married one . . . Just personal preference thingy.

Anyway, my observation is that when Chinese become wealthy or able to financially, they purchase property in America, move to America and stop buying Chinese products. When Americans get wealthy, they also stop buying Chinese products, but they don't buy property in China and move to China. They stay in America. Hmmm . . .

The reasons are simple , most of these countries exported pollution to them when they moved all their manufacturing bases there ...so they are coming to yours to import fresh air for themselves and their families.

The self respect is lost. If you believe the gum blowing and chewing culture of USA is a God given right and should be used in every occasion in the event any one would think USA is bowing to any culture.

There are occasions to be casual Camp David etc where one can let go of the ties and tux and chat and there are also world events where the world expects decorum and proper dressing

You boyz need to catch up to present times instead of saying what people already know and have known for a very long time. One point you need to catch up on is your erroneous thinking that the US believes it is Number One in everything, so do try to keep up in all of these matters.

They and you (of course) miss Prez Obama's point entirely, which is that the CCP Boyz need to render respect if they expect to receive respect. The racism of the Chinese culture needs to be confronted and addressed, which is the central point of this episode.

The current and newest dynasty of arrogant Chinese emperors in Beijing need to pause and to reflect, not to step out to pompously lecture and scold. The PRChinese need to step outside of their closed and insular culture in to the globalized world, which means less lecturing and more learning, less formal posturing in favor of a greater openness and a cosmopolitan attitude to include becoming a civil society.

Your posts consist constantly of predictions of China falling ...I am hoping like the rest of the more realistic poster this will not happen

Having 1.3 billion people being refugees and swamping the world system is going to overwhelm everything.

Governments are set up to ensure success of the country and people ...sometimes they will have policy errors and sometimes they get some things right

Being CCP or communist doesn't change that basic requirement of good governance ...they have made some errors along the way and they are also correcting them on the way

In reality I can see Scandinavian countries stepping up next on the world stage to take control after the gradual fall of Asia in the next 30-50 years
