Interior Ministry to reorganize Bangkok's city landscape

BANGKOK, 12 Nov 2014 (NNT) – The Interior Ministry is set to reorganize the Bangkok metropolitan area by disposing garbage and removing scattered advertisement signs in an effort to improve the city landscape.

The ministry has ordered local administrative offices and related agencies to examine existing advertisement banners and to remove those which were dumped in public areas, major and subsidiary roads, footpaths, and tourist attractions to prevent dangers to pedestrians and motorists.

The move is part of the “Beautiful City, Clean Water Project”, which is aimed at promoting cleanliness and instill social responsibility among the public.

The Interior Ministry also cooperated with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in the Clean City, Happy People Project”. Both of the projects are expected to help speed up improvement of the city landscape and solutions to environmental problems. The latter was said to be the government’s New Year present for all Thais.

They love the fruit but they hate the tree. I see trees cut down to make way for construction and more trees cut down for the dump yard for a construction sight ... do Thais hate trees? More parks please. In Taipei it seems there is a little park with trees tucked away behind every group of buildings.

I don't think he'll be shifting buildings around but maybe something like the following:

1) Put all overhead utilities underground.

2) Have an occasional street cleaner do the main arterials.

3) Dozens of large trash collection cans on main thorough fares with frequent disposal.

4) More open park spaces between large buildings.

5) More park areas in mega malls. (not "parking")

6) Enforcement of exhaust emmissions.

7) Streets dedicated for pedestrian and bicycle use only.

8) Moritorium on commercial highrises

9) One-way major arterials

How about unblocking all sidewalks for pedestrian use....no exceptions. And, while you're at it, fix up those sidewalks so you don't trip on something or fall in a hole. Then maybe disabled people would be able to use them as well......but that's none of my business.coffee1.gif

Now write next to them where the profit is to be derived for the officials who make the effort to enforce your laudable suggestions and hey presto, you've got a deal.
