ED-Visa holders

Featured Replies

Just a note for all ED-Visa people here.

Your school should already know this, but every year your ED-Visa must be canceled and then re-applied.

I was at Nong Khai immigration earlier this week and all Ed-Visa holders had to go to a separate office (opened at 8.00AM) and have their ED-Visa canceled.

Your school should provide you with this cancellation letter.

Also be sure to CHECK all info in that letter.

There where several people that had their passport number just 1 letter/number wrong

or

their name spelled wrong

or

the wrong cancellation date (must be the date you are at immigration OR before in case of a day or more overstay)

In these cases it was NOT excepted and they had to contact their school and have them fax over a new document.

People whom have done the Laos run will know that we used to be at the hotel around 8-9AM.

This time we arrived finally at 14.00PM at the hotel.

Good luck with your next application.

Note you're talking about an extensions of stay, not a visa. These are different things.

Nong Khai is the only border post asking for a cancellation letter to let people on studying extensions leave. Other border posts, e.g. Mukdahan or airports do not ask it.

Don't know what other borders do, but ALL ED-Visa holders had to re-apply with the whole paperwork package at the ambassy in Vientaine.

This gives again a new visa for 1 year (still will need to do the 3 months checking at local immigration of course.)

It should not give anybody problems to continue to study, but it is just an hassle, what the whole visa paperwork always is in Thailand

No, it is not at visa for 1 year.

It is a single-entry ED visa, allowing 90 days stay. Before these expire, the student need to apply at immigration for an extension of stay (not checking) every 90 days, for a maximum of 1 years. Each extension cost Bt. 1,900.

With the same visit at immigration he/she also have to report (what you call checking), that is free.

All these things have been known know since July when immigration published the new regulations.

Any reports on cancellation letter needed at Suvarnabhumi?

As said before it is not being asked for at other border crossings or any airport.
