Muslim students in Narathiwat province condemn violence committed against civilians in Thailand's insurgency-plagued south, 11 Nov 2014.

YALA – An unidentified assailant killed a Muslim cleric and seriously wounded his 7-year-old son last night in the insurgency-plagued southern province of Yala.

According to police, 47-year-old Asan Mataeha, a Muslim teacher at a local madras, was shot "multiple times" in front of his house in Betong district at around 11:10 pm last night.

His 7-year-old son was also shot in the torso and is now being treated at Betong Hospital, police said.

According to Malimee Jeni, a relative of the slain cleric who reportedly witnessed the incident, Asan was parking his motorcycle in front of his house after attending an evening prayer session when the gunman opened fire on him with an AK-47 rifle.

The black-clad assailant appeared to have been hiding near Asan's house and waiting for him to return home, Malimee said. After Asan went down, the gunman reportedly sprayed bullets across the house where Asan's wife and children were taking cover. One of the bullets hit the 7-year-old boy, Malimee said.

Police say they found nine AK-47 bullet cases in the area where the assailant was said to be hiding.

The world would be a lot better and safer without the muslim faith.

Why is that? There is good and bad in every group!

Aren't the Kurds muslims? Are they in the front lines, women as well as men, battling against ISIS?

I'm not at all sad.

You should be if this murder of the Imam was an extrajudicial killing by a Thai death squad, always leads to revenge killings of innocents.

Alternatively we do not know if the Imam in the OP was murdered by the terrorists for speaking out against the violence e.g.

"Muslim students in Narathiwat province condemn violence committed against civilians"

but it is probably ok to murder police and army because they are legitimate targets....especially if they are non-muslims.

Is a teacher a civilian if the teacher is educating girls about the world outside islam?

They are condemning violence and you criticise that.

Is your refusal to accept that not all Muslims condone violence that entrenched that you refuse to accept anything that runs counter to this view?

Yes teachers are civilians as any rational person of any and all faiths will tell you.

What terrorists and other hate fuelled bigots say is a symptom of their prejudice.

In all faiths.

The students should be marching against violence, not violence against civilians. It implies violence is OK

as long as it is not against civilians. Same as the PC violence against women campaigns, when the campaigns

should be to end violence. From school yard punch ups to bar room brawls you are far more likely to experience

violence as a man than a woman. Yet almost all campaigns focus on violence against women.

It doesn't make me sad to here this. If it was a buddhist or christian I would feel sad. But for the enemies of world peace there is no sadness
