Getting notifications when your phone is off

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I switch my phone if I'm looking for a bit of peace, only problem being is I don't get missed calls or text messages. I am with True and I remember a few years back on another phone I had somebody done something which enabled this to happen.

Anybody any ideas?

Why not just put your phone on silent? The notifications will be there when you decide to look at your phone again.

Text messages should come through when you turn your phone back on anyway. Same with line, Facebook, wechat etc.

For missed calls, I think you will need to set up voice-mail. Otherwise, there is no way your phone will know that someone tried to call you.

You want the notifications that you received calls or messages, yet you turn the phone off 'for a bit of peace'.

You should be able to retrieve all messages missed, in fact, it should be automatic. As for missed calls, there may be a way to set this up with your provider (call back service?).

That said, you CAN receive all notifications if you simply make your phone SILENT. That would certainly give you 'a bit of peace'. Or are you really trying to AVOID somebody?

My reasons for turning the phone are my business, just wanted to ask some info and hoped I could get help on here.

At present when the phone has been switched off and then on I don not receive any texts that have been sent to me.

Thanks for your reply.

Your VIVO X3S is a Chinese made Android operating system phone. The Chinese do not have much depth in making Smartphones - but I read some interesting and promising things... The Google Android operating system is very much universally alike across manufacturers - but there can be some customizing. I just went through my settings on my Android phone about notifications and do not find anything that would help ... But you should go through most of the settings to see if buried there - there is some way to turn on notifications after the phone is turned on. Some Android Settings do vary from brand to brand of phone. I just found one under Display - Lock Screen Notification... Show notifications on Locked Screen... check box. A long shot but worth a try. Mine also has Schedule Off and back ON - set these times and it happens automatically... doubt this would help but you could try.

My Android operating system version is 4.2.2 ... depending on your phone you may be able to do an update to 5.0... This could help. If you have the Android operating system of below 4.1 - this could well be part of your problem - I just read. Try and update.

It just came back to me ... what you are talking about is Push Notifications... when your phone is off overnight you lose all contact with the SMS/Text servers and phone servers and others. And the connections are not automatically restarting ... There are Android App - many that fix this problem in different ways. Try Google Play for (Play Store) and search for these apps find one you like and download and turn it on... See what happens... There some that send a keep alive signal going and when the phone is turned on - the keep alive signal starts up again to revive server connections. And also work to Push the message notification to the Fore of the screen display. These are mostly Free.

Here is a link... it may not work as I am signed in to play.google.com as me... You have to use a browser on a PC, MAC computer, iPad or Tablet - sign in with your Gmail - email address and password. Then choose Apps and Search for Push Notifications. Peruse and choose and download from there. It should have your phone registered under My Apps.

You can do this with the phone Play Store App -- but it is so confining as to what you can see on one screen as to be a pain.

Also you should review the many other SMS apps - other than the one you have that came with the phone. I got my second Android 5 months ago and had to replace several apps with apps that I thought worked better for me... Phone - address book and SMS App...

If your business co workers ... or Thai customers or friends use the LINE app - which most people in Thailand do... You would be smarter to get using LINE with them. SMS is stone age communications compared to LINE... Message, File and image transfer in seconds ... with immediate confirmation of receipt. You can see it happening right before your eyes.

Finally ... you seemed to have boxed yourself into a corner with the insistence that you MUST turn off the phone at night. When others here instinctively know that putting a phone is total silent mode - no ring, no vibrate, no notifications tone or vibrate - is functionally equivalent to turning it off - you won't be bothered... but in total silent mode -- your phone maintains contact with the various servers... thus - when turning into active mode in the morning - you messages will be there.

You just do not trust that this actually is totally silent...

Try some of these methods - I hope they work...
