No it's a cicada. A type of beetle and they only make that sound during the mating season. Grasshoppers sleep at night.

    Actually cicadas make noise during the day. Crickets are active during the night.

    You can buy live ones from most pet shops or markets that sell pets. They will be in a plastic bag with an egg carton inside.

    Cricket = Jinglid in Thai.

    As Norrad says, you buy them from pet shops who sell them as food for birds/lizards etc.
