inet and ismart when there is no electricity

Thank you in advance for reading this post.

I have queries regarding internet service in my room. I am in a condo and sometimes the electricity goes out. When this happens, because use adsl, I have no internet.

I wonder if I were to get GB for my phone or smarphone if I connect with my laptop when there is no electricity if that would work well.

I asked this question at True and they said they weren't sure. My best guess is that it should work fine without electicity, but thought I should ask.

Please kindly share your thoughts or suggestions. They are very much appreciated.

The electricity supply of the mobile network transmitters are very robust/separated.

Probably even with a UPS connected.

I can hardly remember a time here in my upcountry village when mobile network was down even while the house supply was dead.

So I expect you will have internet connection until the laptop/smartphone battery will run empty.

(at least so I did for me on rare occasions, in the meantime the power supply has become very stable)

BTW: loss of power supply does not necessarily mean, that your ADSL (wire) is dead (separated network/power supply).

So if you would connect the modem/router (!) with a UPS you will likely have uninterrupted ADSL connection.

For only the router a small UPS should last quite a while.

I sometimes thought about simply connecting a 12V battery in parallel on the low voltage side (after the power adapter).

But would need some protection circuitry I guess.

Thank you very much. I may consider the UPS for the modern / router as suggested. I will research this part a bit more. I really appreciate that suggestion.

In regards to the mobile being seperated - perhaps I may share more about my experiences with this. When the electricity is on and I look at what is available for wireless there are more than ten services that show as being available (of course most with the requirement of a security code to enter). But, when the electricity is off general there are none (except when it happened the other day I did see one for Asus). This is why I am not so sure about them being seperate. I wonder, might you have some input on this part?

I surely appreciate your response as I can understand what you are saying much more than when I go into a shop and ask for explanations.

Thank you very much.

Very best regards and Merry Christmas!

Like the KhunBenq said if you have adsl just put your adsl modem on an UPS and it is solved. That you don't see other networks when the power is gone is because most of those are also powered by electricity.

So if you have your own adsl modem just put it on a separate power supply. That is what I have done and it works like a charm.

Of course it would work without electricity....otherwise your phone wouldn't work. wink.png

I have two MiFi and a six hour battery on the laptop. That covers me for around ten hours without mains power.
