BANGKOK - The Thai army chief has assured the public that, unlike some other Southeast Asian nations, Thailand is not immediately threatened by the rise of the Islamic State movement.

Gen. Udomdet Sitabutr delivered the comment today just before he boarded a plane to attend an international security summit between members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Hanoi, Vietnam.

"We are monitoring the expansion of the ISIS or IS terrorist movement in our neighbour countries, but there is no such thing in Thailand so far," said Gen. Udomdet, "However, we will continue to monitor the issue constantly."

Gen. Udomdet added that the ASEAN summit, which is taking between from 25-29 November, is aiming to establish a better coordination among member countries to fight terror movements and share vital intelligence.

It took a tip from the Israelis to get the bomb-making Saudis ( one of whom blew his own legs off in the escape attempt). Frankly who would know ( perhaps other than the Israelis and the Yanks) what scumbags are entering Thailand with ill intent.

The incident you're referring to in BKK was co-odinated State terrorism across a number of countries by the Iranians targeting Israelis and Jews.

"We are monitoring the expansion of the ISIS or IS terrorist movement in our neighbour countries, but there is no such thing in Thailand so far,"

Madness........... IS appeals to millions and millions of muslims world-wide, even if they would change their minds pretty quickly once they had to live like it for real........................ BUT.......... Such things don't exist in LOS. Just like Thai people could never murder ala koh Tao

If they think Thailand free of operatives they are living in a dreamworld........... Which when we consider where we are, isn't so far fetched!

Certainly more realistic than thinking Thailand, with it's fine upstanding morality, wouldn't be despised by ISIS supporters................... Sukhumvit soi 3 seems to housing quite a few ISIS look-a-likes who have travelled here for the spicy food and plethora of mosques to visit

BANGKOK, Nov 25 -- Thai Army chief Gen Udomdej SItabutr on Tuesday acknowledged that the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group has arrived in a neighboring country but it has not existed in Thailand.

Before leaving for Hanoi, Vietnam to attend the 15th ASEAN Chiefs of Army Multilateral Meeting set from today through Saturday, Gen Udomdej said he continues to follow ISIS movements and found that they do exist in a neighboring country, which he did not identify.

He asserted that they had not entered Thailand.

Regarding the ASEAN army chiefs' meeting, Gen Udomdej said he would express his vision on ASEAN armies' cooperation to tackle threats.

"I will have bilateral talks with other army chiefs to develop good ties and focus on cooperation among armies on information exchange such as information about anti-international terrorism and disaster relief missions," the army chief said. (MCOT online news)

Not to worry: Thai traffic and bad driving will derail any attempt at havoc. Consider when Ramzi Yousef and his buddies tried to blow up US embassy in Bangkok, but got stuck in traffic and had accident. Prior to his attempt at taking down WTC.

Every country should take a leaf out of Japan's book no radicals allowed in. All muslims should be banned from entering non muslim countries and any members of criminal organizations should be executed thus weeding them out slowly but surly.

Another feeble effort to deflect attention away from the real concerns of the nation and invent a foreign threat. The west have been pulling that trick for years.

Heck, apes in the jungles have been doing it for longer than humans have existed (Human Zoo by Desmond Morris.)

When ISIS get here (if not already) they will hit the tourist areas.

Thailand is probably the main place where Islamic terrorists are demanding the same thing as ISIS are.

So it is natural they are going to be drawn here like flies on a turd.

Dark days ahead indeed.

AND they can practice cutting off the heads of small boys, without fear of capture.

IS need to be removed from the world. They all want to go and see Allah so it is our duty to help.
