So better trained traffic police checking bad drivers qualifications, addressing road issues, setting an example and catching illegal drivers.

Fines imposed more readably for bad driving or no licence.

Money raised put into better training and a higher test standard.

A basic road training/bike riding training course rolled out for all riders and school children.

Thailand's roads can be made safer. Just needs the government to take the lead.

Not going to change much.

Many morons know the dangers, yet they still take the risk.

Look at how many Thai electricians work.

Many Thai fishermen working on boats don't know how to swim !!

I think the fishermen not being able to swim can pretty much apply worldwide.

Was it a man or a woman that died?

Two accidents, two deaths, one female in the first and a male in the second.

Not that hard to understand.

So just why do RTP when manning a roadblock not issue traffic infringement notices to both driver AND passenger when not wearing helmets. I see this several times a week and the passengers just laugh.

Theres no money in it for the police,, it will never happen until they clean up the police first.

Not sure how the bike sped past the truck and the truck hit the back of the truck. whistling.gif

Lots of crazy driving in Thailand.

Huh? So what if the truck is doing 65 kph? Does the brainless (sorry!) scooter rider really have to go faster and pass it?

It's a trait in Thailand to get to the front and then cut across to make the exit rather than slow down and pass behind faster traffic to make your exit. See it all the time.

Darwinism on wheels.

Another bloody speed reader!

The story is about TWO SEPARATE ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS.

Thanks, my bad. However when the title is so poorly written it's quite hard to read.

"The driver of a motorbike was injured and his female passenger died when he changed lanes in front of A female motorcycle’s passenger die and a male driver injure after he changed lane in front of a pickup truck yesterday morning (November 26)."

Also when the title is regarding a woman dying, why is more emphasis placed on a completely different accident?

Many motorcycle drivers have no idea of the danger. Indeed no helmet, no insurance, no drivers license and no respect. I can post daily about reckless driving. Just yesterday I saw a guy driving a motorcycle, kid between him and his wife. Same time smoking a cigarette! Many times I also see them driving with one hand while making a phone call, but if we hit them...ooh boy all fingers point at you!

How about, High speed + No helmet + No idea about traffic rules + No more life?

26,000 Thais slaughter themselves on the roads every year.

Is there anything special about these latest couple of Darwinian idiots to make them worthy of lengthy discussion on this expat forum?

You people are aware that no-one, neither government authority nor Khun Somchai on his overloaded Honda, are taking note of your road safety suggestions?

Bored, too early for the pub, reminding yourself to wear a helmet tonight and not drive drunk?

"reminding yourself to wear a helmet tonight and not drive drunk?" - good advice, but what about the riders/drivers coming the opposite direction?

Just because an individual may be doing the right thing, doesn't mean other road users are.

After many years of riding motorcycles, I still use this to this day

Me too - I used to ride a Honda GoldWing in the UK. Don't ride bikes in Thailand (too dangerous). But in my truck I always do this 'Lifesaver' move before I change lanes, to ensure that a bike is not in my blind spot.

And yes - I do it when walking as well...

Not really. Par for the course. And no amount of 'training' for the brain dead will make any difference at all.

Move on. Nothing to see here.

Interesting post jpeg.

I don't disagree, but would ask you, what do you think makes them "brain dead" here?

Is it lack of education and training, lack of enforcement, lack of punishment, lack of affordable public transport? Maybe a combination of all of these.

'Many years ago' (biggrin.png), I was in conversation with a well renowned photographer who'd documented the people of Asia through his work. He'd told me, 'the oriental people have not the same mindset as the occidentals and vice versa' I knew it then, and know it to this day. Any opinion to the contrary is inverse racism.

Where does money and greed, through bribery and corruption, fit into that theory, because it's killing hundreds on the road, on Phuket, every year?

A.hysterically funny post. I have never heard of a thai policeman citing someone for reckless driving. That would mean they were useful. People would learn if they did get cited. With the kinds of foolishness I see here on the road, it is no wonder this does not happen more often. I have no idea where I am going, but I know I have to get there quickly. Sheer stupidity.
