PHUKET: -- The Damrongtham Centre – the provincial ombudsman – has announced that it will attempt to break the logjam in the Land Office that has resulted in people having to wait years to get land papers or upgrades issued.

“We have heard complaints that people have to wait for a long time for consideration of paperwork,” said Prapan Khanprasang, the centre’s chief.

“This measure will help to scotch the complaints that officials rush to process title deeds for big business people, pushing ordinary people to the back of the queue.

“We will be the centre for a committee comprising the Land Office, the District Offices and other officers involved, depending on the case, and will serve as a place for landowners to meet and discuss the processes and the problems that have been slowing down the processes.”

He added that the Damrongtham Centre has been dealing with individual land cases for a long time.

But from now on landowners who have any problem over processing any kind of land paper can go to the Damrongtham Centre at Provincial Hall or to its satellite offices at each District Office to discuss the problem.

“It will make the process more transparent. Land owners will be able to understand the officials and find out why their paper is delayed.”
