We decide to have our dinner in that little restaurant ;

It is not far from Chiang_Mai gate; a little soy ( outside the " square " );

if you like blues and issan food (delicious lap moo = 50 baht !! ) it's the place to go .

Big Chang bottle = 75 baht

This km marker is at km 1 ;

the real beginning is in front of the zoo where there are so many red song theo .

After visiting the Wat, we decide to go on the top at the Puphin Palace ( it's not really the top of the mountain)

15763791337_156fa2d223_o.jpgPB253760_chiang_mai__puphin_palace by vanhouten1, on Flickr

Downhill a stop and a shot ; we can see the pollution on Chian_Mai but it's much more from february to may each year .

15948858832_92ef9b64a1_o.jpgPB253761_chiang_mai_route_doi_suthep by vanhouten1, on Flickr

Very easy to climb it ;

all the 10 kilometers on the 32 x 24 except the last one on the 22 x 24

I liked so much so I decide to climb a second time cheesy.gif ( 54 minutes for the eleven km )

Afternoon and evening a promenade in Chiang_Mai old city with our bicycles

Great photos BUT,

You bike frames are way too small for you, and you have off-road tyres.

Seeing as you don't appear to be going off road,

Wouldn't road tyres (25 or 28mm) and a frame that fitted make it easier and more comfortable?

This afternoon I was reading some answers in the lign " my current set up "

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/752380-my-current-setup/

I liked so much the answer of our friend rhythmworx

" My kit is pretty basic and old school because I am poor and have too many bills to pay."

I can give you the same answer about the bicycle I use to ride in Thailand;

Not exactly "If I had a hammer " tongue.png

but if I had enough money I could buy a beautiful road bike , but I cannot ..I have, as rhythmworx other bills to pay .

University for my daughters is not free in Thailand and is more important than buying a new bicycle.

So I do my rides with my Wheeler Pro 10 , I bought about four years ago in Thailand;

the frame is only 20" ;

they didn't have a 22 " or a 24 " ;

The tyres are the best we can have ; not sure we can buy this type of tyres in Thailand : Schwalbe Marathon Plus; 26 x1,75

they were bought by a nephew who is living and working in Tokyo - Japan ;

They are nearly 18 months old and nearly 20,000 km;

never a problem with them ; they are heavy, nearly 1 kg each ! but so strong .

I'm not there in Thailand for winning bike races; I never did a bike race when in France, my country .

I like to cycle; my friend jongunnar knows about that...smile.png

Maybe he can do all " Phupalek hill " once with me ;

I hope so. It's a little bit difficult but less than going to Doi_Ang_Kang or Doi_Mae_Salong .

Thank you for your answers..

I will continue to put my photos here in the differents headings .

You should try some 28mm (should fit that rim OK), your current 40mm will have a huge drag, 25% more pedal effort than you need. Even 35mm would save you 15% pedal power. 600bht (ish) each.

PS

Your frames look 17" (18" tops) to me.

It's finish...

My friend will come back to Bangkok and after France the day after ; the 27 th ( thursday ) ;

We did about 1,400 kilometers and tired but are very happy.....

I think my friend will not come back to Thailand...

He wanted to come here for visiting some ethnic villages like he did in Vietnam a few years ago.

I'm living there since a little bit more than seven years and have still so marvellous provinces to discover or going deeply inside..like Nan or Chiang_Rai provinces...

Hope u liked these few words ( hope not too many non-senses ) and the photos..

See u on the other subjects.

Michel

Hi Michel,

Congratulations! great story of our cycling tour in the northern mountains !!! clap2.gif

I think my friend will not come back to Thailand >> ???? Why not ??? >>> never say never ....smile.png

You should receive an envelope with photos of Lai and you ....

I told you in an email that I plan Laos tour from around 10 November to 10 December ....

Question: Can I add photos from our tour with your story ??

Best regards

Daniel
