versace
Forget it, tourism is dead in Thailand.. Thai police is desperate too, they running all around Bangkok catching white people and asking money for nothing.
AliasJohn
I don't think it is dead as some have put it. Yes it's a little quiet which could be a combination of a number of things such as the exchange rate for one. I live in Prachuap City and there are no shortage of tourists here as the season starts up. Regardless of the drama's that Thailand has on the political scene, people still love to come to this beautiful part of the world. Keep a positive outlook and all will be good. Lets face it, even if your not in the tourist business, if tourist come it boosts the local economy and in turn that must help even the guy sitting in the pub on the corner. Cheers

TheSiemReaper
Over here in Cambodia it's definitely high season - this has been the busiest week of the year by a barnyard mile. No idea why no-one's hanging around in Thailand to be stopped and searched in the streets...

Popular Post geisha
The restaurants in Jomtien are 80 per cent empty, cheap places have more custom, but even they are complaining.Central Pattaya restaurants are quiet too, although The Central Festival food hall is full of Russians and a few other foreigners. Certainly the baht exchange rate isn't helping . Flying from France ten days ago, the Emirates flight was half full. Never seen that before, and the return flights with BA, Air France have been advertised lately around the 500 euros !!! There are hotel rooms to be had everywhere, even Phuket which is usually full at Christmas, some web sites are putting their hotels on sale. I think Thailand has become too expensive for what they offer, the average tourist is now wise and careful, the rich tourists go to better places. Let's face it, the infra structure is like something out of hell, the water around Pattaya filthy, the pavements are life threatening, go to Phuket and get blue seas but get ripped off 5 times a day. Personally, I don't think it has anything to do with the coup and politics, you hardly hear anything in the news in Europe, but you do hear the bad vibes emanating from Koh Tao, jet ski accidents and rip offs, and savage attacks on tourists happening nearly every day somewhere in the kingdom.

khunPer
High Season varies at different destinations. Some areas are (extremely) low season in November-December up till a few days before Xmas, then it’s peak season. Other destinations have direct charter flights, like for example Phuket, and high season often begin in November, as the package tour contracts begin that time and travels are sold with discounts to fill up the planes, until to the Xmas and Winter holidays begin. I'm coming to HH in Jan have booked 3 nights in Suk hotel BKK but thinking of skipping and coming straight to HH. But with all the other stuff going on in Thailand as well it's not surprizing tourist numbers are down. Edited December 10, 2014 by ToneG
ukchatterbox
A good Idea would be to relax visa laws; but wait - I am thinking like a silly Farang. 30 day stamp at the airport with option of 30 day extension at IO is more than adequate for tourists.
