Thai police chief to attend international police meeting on human trafficking

BANGKOK: -- Police Commissioner General Pol Gen Somyos Pumphanmuang will leave for London to attend a conference of police officers from 77 countries on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss measures for fighting against human trafficking.

Somyos said he will also meet British Prime Minister David Cameron and Keith Bristow, Director-General of the British National Crime Agency, to discuss the Koh Tao case.

A step in the right direction , the chief will find that besides being on the low rung of the ladder in this field , he will also notice that police standards and resources are such that the RTP would need the national budget to carry out their duties properly , what is learned and what is implemented is the crux of this task, one hopes that Thailand can progress further than what it has done in the past, under the new Thai Police Chief Pumphanmuang.coffee1.gif

Has immigration found those 200 people who dissapeared/vanished from thier detention centre or were they sold to the highest bidder? Hope he can explain this one.

The Thai government is a laughing stock and is anyone really even going to acknowledge that this guy is even there?

Seems a bit odd, since the accused are migrant workers smuggled into the country, and permitted by the RTP to stay, for a small fee.

That is exactly why :)

They got to update themselves with the new fighting technics...... So they can counter them whistling.gif

There may well be a sting in the tail on this trip.

People in power in the U.K. might well start asking questions concerning the police methods on Koh Tao.

Allied to that questions may well be asked as to why dual standards are imposed when foreign nationals are involved in employment legally or otherwise, also why are certain ethnic minorities placed under curfew and not allowed to posses mobile phones etc etc.

This trip is nothing more than an outright demonstration of pure hypocrisy.

No doubt there will be reports of how pleased the British PM was with the KT case, and how numerous police forces are now looking to the RTP for training and guidance.

Maybe the RTP could become the ASEAN "federal" police? That would be a good little earner.

This high level police delegation should be great news for Harrods and some of the top 5 star Michelin restaurants, if nothing else. The plods will be impressed if they know about the reports of healthy asset declarations and stock market investments by police who earn even less than them. Not sure what their contribution will be on eliminating human trafficking tho.
