Police case wasn't closed -- will this cause future problems?

Featured Replies

I posted this in the 'ask the lawyer' section and received a good reply, but I'm wondering if any of you have ever had an experience similar to mine below.

...

I had a serious cycling accident more than two months ago when a truck struck me at high speed. I sustained serious injuries and have had to return to my country for further treatment.

The problem is the police case was not closed: nothing was signed and no agreement was reached. The driver made the ridiculous claim that I was cycling on the right hand side of the road. I explained to the police that in my country, the UK, we drive on the same side as Thailand, but the case still remains open.

My fundamental question is this: could I face future problems in Thailand for leaving the country before the conclusion of the case? Should I avoid Thailand in the future(including transit)?

Thank you in advance for any response.

I would guess that you should not have a problem from the info you provided.

Unless you were charged with a violation of the law there would be nothing to cause you a problem unless the truck driver sued you for damages.
