Central - Robinson ramp up New Year campaigns

BANGKOK, 12 Dec 2014, (NNT) - Thailand's leading department store chains like Central and Robinson are ramping up their end of the year campaigns, aiming to boost sales by offering goods at discounted prices.

Marketing Senior Director of Robinson Department Store (Public) Company Limited Tham Jirathiwat revealed that his company has spent 80 million baht in its New Year sale campaign ‘Give the Perfect Gift’ which takes place from now until January 4th in all of its branches.

He said that Robinson also joins hands with the Ministry of Commerce organizing the Government’s New Year Gift to the People Campaign, offering 20-70% discounted items from December 24th - 30th. The goods being offered in this event include kitchenware, bedroom furniture, electrical appliances, and various New Year gift sets.

Meanwhile, Senior Vice-Chairman of the Marketing Department of the Central Department Store Company Limited Piyawan Lelasompob said that the company would hold 2 separate end of the year campaigns; one in the capital, and the other in branches in rural areas.

Ms. Piyawan estimated that the capital campaign, ‘Central Celebration in Bangkok’, a 250 million baht sales campaign which combines forces with Central World, Zen Department Store, Chidlom Central, and Central Embassy, as well as the latter's 650 million baht campaign for the provincial branches would generate no less than 12 billion baht of income during the period.

These programs were to help the poor not the middle class. The only happiness is going to the middle class and rich. So how many poor Thai people go to Robinsons or Central and buy kitchenware, bedroom furniture, electrical appliances, and various New Year gift sets.

I have never seen a GENUINE sale here in 3 years of living here nor 17 years of traveling here. AND THIS LOAD OF CROCK is nothing more than SALES HYPE. mention SALE to anyone anywhere in the world and they think they are on to a bargain. I mean EVERYONE not just Thailand. But here goods are more expensive now than overseas

Many of the shops operate on tiny volume, astronomical margin. For example, retro Scandinavian designer furniture is made in Thailand, is high quality and exported around the world. But it costs 20% less to buy it in Australia than in Bangkok. Coffee machines another case in point( although not made in Thailand).

Don't worry Ms. Piyawan, we all know how it works - we are farang... seen it for a hundred years or more.

Change your price tags overnight upping by 70% profit, stick a sticky over the top of the 'old wonder price', and wow! What do we have? A new super-super reduced price with upto 70% off...... just to get rid of your stocks and next year's new trends in January - still making huge margins.

650M will generate no less that 12B! Say no more Rodney, say no more. and 75% of that 12B is marginal profit.

Everything in Robinson or Central can be found cheaper in the Western world.

And those sales are very annoying, you have to bring a calculator yourself to know the price, most products are damaged/old because show-items. Central has the "make a wish" promotion but nobody understands how it works and it costs a lot of time to get that discount.

Some brands are always in the sale, like Pierre Cardin. Don't Thai me please.

Agree sales here are a joke. If you're a smart shopper you do comparisons first. For example most appliances are cheaper at online shops or small shops than the big chains who claim to have fire sales.

Well lazada uses the same tricks. Everything there costs double and that is after the discount of 30-50% which they give on ALL products.whistling.gif

The Thai don't know it yet but they are cheated every day again.
